If the Pats lose, would you root for Chargers/Chiefs in SB?

I have strong thoughts on what I want to happen if the Pats lose. I would absotively root for the Bolts and especially the Chiefs, two original AFL teams.

I root for the AFC with very few exceptions. It goes back to the original AFL days when the NFL ridiculed our teams and wouldn't play us for years. Thankfully, the Jets and Chiefs shut them up for good with back to back wins in 68 and 69.

I can't root for the Indiots though. Not after they took part in defaming the greatest QB ever and also after they purposely tanked a season to get Andrew Luck.

They also tanked games with a legit chance to go 16-0 at the end of the 2009 season to keep the Steelers out of the playoffs and put the Jets in. I can still see the stunned faces of Manning and Jeff Saturday as they were pulled from the Jets game. Afterwards their loser GM (Polian) actually had the gall to step in front of a mic and use the Pats loss in the 2007 SB as his reason for tanking.

Btw, Polian's also the same clown that used his influence on the competition committee to have the rules changed to help stop Belichick's defenses against Manning and create the mess that we now have in the NYFL.

I can't remember ever pulling for an NFC team as hard as I pulled for the Saints in the 2009 SB. I cheered every step of the way on PEDton's pick six that ended that game.

I also wouldn't root for the Ratbirds either. Not after they participated in the character assassination of Tom Brady. It disgusts me to think that they and the NYFL would celebrate a piece of crap like Ray Lewis while trying to tear down a guy who the NYFL should be celebrating for his work ethic and character.

I would probably also now root against the Steelers to give the Pats a chance to overtake them in total SB wins.

Anyway, those are my thoughts. Any thoughts on those?

Seem to be a mirror image of my thoughts as well, so I like them. Only thing you didn’t cover was the Manning Broncos. I did not root for them either.

Brees or Rivers. Screw Indy. Screw Philly.

If the Pats lose, I root for the NFC team in the Super Bowl unless it's the Philthadelphia Fecals.

If I had to rate my rooting interests for the remaining 8 teams in the SB

Tier 1: Patriots, obvious
Tier2: Eagles, no hard feelings, and Nick Foles back-to-back SB champion amuses me
Tier3: Saints/Chargers: Nice to see Brees match Peyton and exceed Rodgers, and Rivers finally gets a ring
Tier4: Cowboys, Chiefs, Rams: No particular feelings one way or the other about these teams
Tier5: Colts, never forget

For as long as I can remember a loss meant not only losing but having to watch the Steelers, Ravens, or a Manning team get a chance to walk away with the Lombardi. So essentially I’ve rooted hard for the NFC in each Super Bowl for the past 20 years.

Obviously no one here can be a real fan stomach the Colts/Irsay, but what about the Chiefs or Chargers? Would you potentially be rooting for an AFC team this year, or be neutral at the least?

So if the Patriots don’t win, then...

I would like to see Philip Rivers get a ring. He’s been a better QB than Eli and arguably than Roethlisberger, but he’s had so many crappy teams and disappointments.

I would also like to see Andy Reid finally get a ring, as he’s a very underrated coach and probably the second best of this era. He’s had to fight in the playoffs with Alex Smith and Donovan McNabb. The Chiefs have “put their time in” and been a perennial contender for years now as well, and I typically root for teams like that to get rings (rather than fluky luck teams like the Giants who are totally unworthy of their titles.)

Thoughts?

for real. lose? who talks like this

I think we can all agree the Colts are #32 of 32. Despite the actual players and even coaches not being that bad, the franchise will never, ever redeem itself for its cowardly actions many times but especially in January 2015.

I would like nothing more than to have them get their hearts ripped out in Foxboro in the AFCCG. Last second heartbreaking TD by Brady sending them into a tailspin. Maybe Irsay would just end it and rid the world of one less billionaire douche.

All fine with me unless one of them signs Peyton or Eli in the meantime

I would prefer a 59-0 beat down of the Colts ala the 2009 Tennessee snow game.

Why in your opinion is Rivers unlikable? I like him,he’s a competitor
Rivers is a punk. Remember him mouthing off to Indy fans back in the 2007-08 playoffs.

I'm ok with the Chiefs because they have a fairly polite, long suffering fan base. New Orlans fans got theirs 10 years ago and can be insufferable with the "who dat" nonsense, and LA does not actually have football fans.

Patriots
Saints
Rams
Eagles/Dallas - Chiefs - Chargers

We aren't going to lose, I am going to be extremely optimistic and say my prayers.
That being said, I don't like Philip Rivers. I don't know if this makes me sound like a jerk, but I'm tired of the media anointing him "Greatest dad of all time", just because he has 8 or 9 kids. And he's managed to "be such a great dad all the while playing football at such a high level".

What in your estimation would be the measure of a father other than, you know, being a father?

No they aren't bad mojo. In fact, they might be good. We have one every time the Pats make the playoffs and they won five times so far.

For everyone of these losing threads we have five that says we will win, so that offsets some of the bad mojo. Imagine if we didn’t think about losing, we may finally end up blowing some teams away.

I honestly would like to see Andy Reid win a SB. I would spend the night vomiting if Indy wins...

I wouldn't root for the Chiefs because I just plain don't like them, but if we lose to the Chargers I will be pulling for them to go all the way. I do like Rivers a lot, and would like to see him win a Lombardi if the Pats aren't going to get another one. Also like Gates, Hayward, Allen, Gordon and Ingram. All of that is enough that I could probably look past how much of a piece of **** Dean Spanos is. Maybe.

My initial plan was to pull for the Seahawks or Bears if the Pats didn't win it, but with them out the Chargers (and to a lesser extent the Rams) are pretty much the only non-Pats team left that I don't actively dislike.

I can go with the LA or KC. It will be a difficult game for me to watch because I would be cheering for both of them.

Let's hope that's not the case. Pats all the way. That's being overly optimistic.

Go Pats

What does the OP even mean?

If they lose, who am I cheering for?
The Celtics
The Bruins
Then the Red Sox

There was a time (pre Pats dynasty) when SB games were blowouts, but that hasn't happened too often lately. I don't get why the Pats haven't blown any teams away. I definitely thought that the Pats/Philly SB in 2004 was going to be a blowout.
