HOF Selects 25 Semi Finalists:

Maybe it's an age thing, having watched Allen's and Coryell's teams play I have immense respect for their talent. Allen never coached a losing season and among coaches with 100+ victories has one of the highest all time career win percentages at .681 (.002 behind Belichick) but with the true greats there's more to it than just wins and losses. Like Coryell, Allen was an innovator in every football sense of the word, most of it on the defensive side of the ball but also on special teams. In many respects we have been watching Allen's and Coryell's NFL for most of the Super Bowl era. Sadly with the way D is being legislated out of the game Allen is probably rolling in his grave.
...and Coryell is happy.

Allen was a little before my time but I very much remember the 80s Chargers.

No question both were innovative, great coaches. Just not sure about HoF.

Makes you wonder how Dungy not only got in, but so quickly. Both times he left, his teams made the Super Bowl immediately after and he only went to one. What does that say?

I think we know the reason....

Is there any question as to whether or not Ty Law is in the Hall of Fame if he’s a Colt or Steelers?
The 3rd quote, implying that the reason that Dingy Tony was elected so quickly to the HOF was due to his ties to the Sh!tsdirt Stealers & Indy Clots - while certainly not hurting his chances - is not, of course, the Real Reason.

What would that be? Media darling?

Edgerrin James is one I consider as this. His most iconic moment is getting stuffed at the goal line.

Also, why does Corey Dillon never get considered, but Edgerrin always does? He was just as good throughout his career.

I think both will have to wait a while if they get in at all. Edge was never known as the best running back in football compared to his peers, and he only averaged 4+ YPC just 7 times in his 11 year career.

Dillon IMO had a cancerous reputation in the Cin locker room before he came here and that hurts his case unfortunately. I think that kind of stuff matters to people - hence a popular Bettis getting in even though his numbers don't warrant it. If Dillon was a Patriot for his whole career he would be a lock IMO.

Rodney’s whole career was about getting snubbed.

Man somehow only made two Pro Bowls over his career due to a bias against his style of play. Sadly it will probably lead to him never getting in.

Agreed. That doesn't help. Neither does his injuries nor his PED suspension.

Wait for Polamalu to get in first. Ridiculous.

That is not where I was going with it.

I’m not quite saying Corey should be a HOF’er either. Just that it’s befuddling to me that Edge gets all this glory, when he really wasn’t any better than Dillon was.

Being a media darling - again, while certainly not hurting his chances - isn't the Real Reason.

I know Shotsie sucked ass in the playoffs but like Reid is a good man. I wouldn't put up a stink if they got in.
I think Shotsie should get in for no other reason than losing his job after a 14-2 season and never being hired again. The list of mediocre to awful head coaches that were hired after his final San Diego stint would fill the Manhattan phone directory.

I think he was coaching semi-pro until recently. I think he has Alzheimer's now.
