Turkey Day Games Thread

Right. 46TDs and 5476 yards is chickenshit. As is 5 seasons of better than 70 percent completion percentage. Something that Tom and Peyton have failed to accomplish even once. 73,800 yards passing all time, ~2K more than the nearest competitor and 5K more than Tom in one less season. Five times more than 5K passing yards in a seaon, the only player who's EVER had more than one season of 5K+

Staubach???? 153 career TDs and 109 INTs? 22K yards passing for his career? Playoff QB rating of 76?

Nobody is saying that TB12 isn't the GOAT, but you're embarrassing yourself.

They've actually played about the same amount of games, Games started TB 262, Brees 258 oddly enough Brees has 452 more pass attempts than Brady(probably 12-14 games worth of attempts). TB has more TD's and less pics per pass attempt than Brees, Drew probably more yds per.

That being said he's the only QB I'll give a pass to for losing seasons because those D's were the all time worst, they set records for TD's scored against etc... pure garbage. Every time I turned on a saints game the opposing QB had a 140+ rating, 3 + tds 300+ yds no pics lol.

You could also make a case that his D is the reason why he has so many attempts and yards. He had to throw for better or for worse. It’s tough to evaluate a QB just based off passing stats.

I think Elway is underrated dragging those 80s Broncos teams to the Super Bowl kicking and screaming.

Agree

I know for a fact that Elway hated Dan Reeves.

I believe its impossible to choose a GOAT QB.

Cant compare todays players to yesteryear's. Cant compare a QB calling his own plays to having a staff of people analyzing a live game. Cant compare the rules of old that anything goes except murdering the QB to todays breath on the QB and its 15 yards.

I agree with todays QB rules because todays players would destroy more QBs like Alex Smith and there wouldnt be a quality game anymore. QBs would come and go in like pitchers. The allure of the game is to watch the best there is and not a guy working at Foot Locker last week.

Some say Unitas was the best, some Montana, some Brady. Green Bay people think Rodgers is the best to play the game. The BOAT.

To me, in each NFL era there was a Greatest.

It’s just hard to find any discernible weaknesses on that Saints team. They can win shootouts, they can grind you with the ground game, and their defense is playing exceptionally well right now. Injuries, of course, could always do them in. But right now they’re the top dog in the NFL.

Weis just tore apart some Foreskins fan on NFL radio for wanting to fire Jay Gruden. That they’re 6-5 with the dearth of talent that they have overall is a modern miracle.

Agree. Also, what makes them the ultimate threat, is how (situationally) aggressive they are. We know without a shadow of a doubt that in the playoffs; if necessary, they won’t hesitate to go for on 4th down. That mentality, along with Brees’ decision making, accuracy & Payton’s creativity make them a formidable opponent. This may be a team that you have to catch slipping on ST & steal a possession or three. Lastly, their secondary is somewhat leaky but I guess that’s the new NFL.

6 NFC teams playing today. Awesome planning, NFL.

I've been following the NFC bias for years.

I have a thread around here somewhere where I tallied up the amount of NFC teams with national games this year. Of the roughly 100 nationally televised teams on Thursday, Sunday and Monday nights, 60 are NFC teams.

The breakdown is as follows; 24 games are all NFC, 13 are split and 16 are all AFC.

Granted the NFC did have a big edge in head to head games last year, but overall they've been crushed by the AFC and are also behind this year. You'd never know it by listening to the "experts" though.

Sorry, can't resist!

Who said so?

Steve Grogan and Doug Flutie were the only hope of the franchise...

...and Raymond Berry benched them both, and of course we lost

I can't resist either.

Drew Bledsoe was considered our top QB by many people. There were even some who thought that way in the early Brady years, and even complained about Drew sitting after we won the SB. I remember those days as the Bledsoe/Brady War.

Has there been any mention yet of that child beater yet and how he continues to beat his children?

Adrian Peterson admits that he still uses a belt to punish his son

What a ****ing sub human piece of **** organization that continues to employ that piece of ****. It's time to vote with your wallets people. End the corrupt 32 by boycotting the NYJFL*.

The worst part of all is that, in spite of being a league loaded with those kind of dirtbags, who did Goody & the 32 go after? Tom Brady.

Joe Montana retired with the highest passer rating of all-time in 1995 (92.3).

This season 20 players have a higher passer rating.

Brees is a great quarterback. I always thought that he’s a great quarterback. But he’s also never, at any point in his career, been considered to be the greatest quarterback playing, until arguably this year, for a period of about two weeks. That’s why these other players rank above him, because you aren’t the second best player of all-time when you aren’t even the second best of your own era (Brady, Manning, Rodgers have all been almost universally been ranked as better quarterbacks than Brees covering a period of 15+ years.)

And your own stats will eventually become your downfall because in 10-15 years guys like Matt Ryan and Matt Stafford will pass Brees, showing why you can’t just look at isolated stats without considering the massive difference in the eras. What Brees has done statistically for his time is no more impressive than what Fouts, Marino, or Manning did for theirs.

In the end, championships stand the test of time. They aren’t the only measure, but they’re important. Passing records have a shelf life of 5-10 years. Championship legacies and winning are historically significant, not just in the NFL but in all sports. You need those to have staying power near the top of an all-time rankings list.

"Matt Ryan and Matt Stafford will pass Brees"

Matt Ryan (282) and Matthew Stafford (233) added TOGETHER have 2 less career TDs than Brees. And they're both in their 30s.

You're an idiot. There's no point talking to you.

Yeah, I mean I get Thanksgiving is going to always be weighted to the NFC with the Lions and Cowboys, but come on. Seems like they would make a point of throwing one AFC team/game in there.

Sure it is. The GOAT QB is Tom Brady. See, i just did it.

Everybody points to hardware as the measuring stick.

Was Terry Bradshaw the GOAT back in the 80s? He had 4 rings. Hell no. Brady benefits more than people want to admit from having Bill Belichick as his GM/HC.

Bradshaw wasn't the GOAT in the 80's because he won 4 SB titles in 8 straight playoff seasons in the 70's. He also took his team to the conference final twice and lost to 16-0 Miami and 15-1 Oakland.

I remember Bradshaw used to take a lot of crap from the mediots for being dumb, but he showed them all that they were wrong.

Not sure that anyone uses rings as the only criteria for being the GOAT but it is certainly important. They play to win the game and a QB, like a pitcher in baseball, has a disproportionate impact on winning and losing. Brady having won over 200 games, a dozen division titles, 27 playoff games, 8 AFC Championships and 5 Super Bowls ALONG with passing statistics that put him near that top of all time passing yards, TDs and QB rating are what sets him apart. How many yards or TD's has he lost due to the team having a big lead and playing conservative to win the game? Has there ever been a player with so many signature moments? Every Super Bowl win besides the Eagles included a last minute score and even in his losses the team only needed a stop to win it. Not to mention what he has done in other playoff games like the Jags last year or the Ravens in 2014.

Brees has had an impressive career but many of his stats were accumulated in losses and/or in garbage time. Plus almost always playing in pristine conditions matters. What is his signature moment? A regular season pass to give him the single season yardage record? Manning's pick 6? Not necessarily his fault but winning matters and only winning once hurts him. (Now if Brees can add a title or two before he retires that changes the narrative completely)

Point is that Bradshaw was never the GOAT.

TBF Bradshaw had the benefit of a brilliant HoF coach in Noll, plenty of weapons and arguably the greatest multi year D of all time, definitely the best over time of the SB era. Montana had Bill 'The Genius" Walsh and an all star roster. Not taking anything away from Joe Cool but to hear people talk one would thing Montana was his own GM, HC and in his spare time (when he wasn't taking long soul searching walks on water) he dabbled at OC and trainer. Hell, while we are at it Unitas had Lombardi. When we are splitting hairs to fuel a (preposterous) 'best of the best' GOAT discussion it's fair to include the hardware in the mix.
