The biggest names for pass rushers are Cameron Wake, DeMarcus Lawrence and Jadeveon Clowney: all of whom will be expensive and don't fit the Patriots narrative for big name signings, but Brady is turning 42 when the new season starts

Pass rush has always been a necessity with this defense. We've always talked about how the defense can't get to QBs or pressure QBs when they have all the time in the time in the pocket to complete passes.

Who would we realistically be able to sign as far as pass rushers go?

I can see Clowney being tagged. No way Houston let's him walk.

I would outbid Teams for Wake but I'm not the Cheap Skate Bargain basement GM BB. :D I am sure my Binkie Dion Lewis - DA and many others approves this message. :D

Lawrence isn't going anywhere. Ditto with Clowney.

As I mentioned in another thread, the D-line needs to get blown up. They need a true run stuffer in the middle.

They need a game changing pass rusher.

They need youth, speed and talent at LB.

The hard part about this is, good luck finding them in FA.

The pickings will be damn slim again. With around 43 players under contract, I believe
they are projected to have 25 million to spend with 20 free agents of their own including
Brown, Flowers, Gostkowski, and Allen.
Hope for a Superdraft like the Saints had in 2017. Maybe, they had divine help?

Don't forget about the massive house cleaning that will probably take place. If the front office wants someone badly in 2019, they will find a way to pay what it takes.

I think they have to look at their big bucks contracts like McCourty and Gronkowski to see if they are
getting good value.

With two 2nd round picks in the 2019 draft, you know one of them will be traded for a 2021 2nd round pick. and the other will be used on a safety or offensive lineman. TE & QB will be ignored once again.

I think we have him in Berrios

What have we seen out of Berrios since he was drafted that would indicate he's even going to make an NFL 53 man roster in his career? Dude was thoroughly unimpressive. Even McCarron looked better and that's saying something.

Is anyone against the idea of replacing Devin Mccourty and replacing him with a younger Landon Collins?

Yes, Mcourty is overrated.

Love to find a real elite Safety like a Rodney or Ed Reed. Somebody that plays whistle to whistle.

Unless the Patriots are willing to pay top dollar, no top flight player is going to play for
them. Their best luck seems to be with RFA's. The draft is the best answer but it takes
a year or two to develop a player.

The Patriots pay top dollar to players who deserve it (see Shaq Mason).

As for FA, I am not expecting anything. Most of the money will be paid to Trey Flowers if we do re-sign him, IMO.

The draft is our only hope.

I suspect that most of the money will go to Brown. We also need to sign Gostkowski, Jason McCourty, and give tenders (probably high) to Gordon and even J Jones (although I expect him to be signed to an extension before the tender). We also need sign a WR or two (probably Patterson and Dorsett). IMHO, we should not create holes which will need to be filled. So, signing the above are my priorities. I think it unlikely that we extend Flowers.
