Keeping track of the defense.

Easley is gone and Rivers is yet to see the field. It was great to sign Gilmore a year early. Can u image we have to pay the same amount for Butler?

The talent level on D is definitely low. It is a good thing that we have one 1st round, two 2nd round, three 3rd round picks in 2019. That is some nice ammo.

And I remember plays like the one where Shelton blew up a run by producing inside pressure.

Point being that he looked better than in the absolute garbage performance against Detroit. But whatever we are splitting hairs. He needs to improve a lot more before he becomes a consistent plus.
I saw the same thing. I cant remember specific plays but once Brown left Sheldon was in there more and seemed to do better than prior games and the run D didn't collapse. Let's hope he continues to improve

IMO this is a tad premature, need more games to assess how good or bad this D is.. singling out one player as the cause is begging the issue in a team sport, particularly as we do not know the specific assignments of the defense.. always go back to the days of Seymour when he was lambasted on this board by fans for his lackadaisical play as he did not show up in the box score only to have BB ascend to the dais to tell us what a great game #93 had.

9th in PPG
16th in yards
3rd in yards per attempt against
10th in passer rating against
30th in sacks
21st in yards per carry
13th in yards per play
26th in 3rd down pct (giving up 100% of 3rd and short plays - worst in NFL)

Team identity starting to form of a strong pass defense & mediocre front 7. J. McCourty/Jones over Butler/Rowe seem to be the main difference.

"Constantly pimping?" LOL! You must have me confused with someone else. I was one of his harshest critics here all last season. I was pretty certain all summer that he wouldn't make the roster except for his special teams contributions.

Anyway, how is saying that he may be a second TE target "pimping"?

His receiving ability appeared to have improved in the pre-season, and he caught 3 of 3 targets for 35 yards in his one (healthy) game appearance so far in the regular season. He caught 4 of 12 targets for 42 yards total last season. I don't see it as "pimping" to suggest that he may see more targets (IF he's healthy).

Oh come now, your obviously his agent.

Not according to my bank account, even at the NFLPA-standard agent rate of 1.5% on such a low $$ contract.

I give them one more game.

I don't even know what purpose that post served. I'm clearly updating these stats (and adjusting the opposing offenses) on a game-by-game basis.

I understand, and I and others appreciate the effort & knowledge.
My point in response to another post is that our defense in their 3 wins (and in their loss @ Jax) have played offenses who rank in the bottom half - and in some cases the very bottom - of the league. I'm impressed by neither their depth not their overall talent base, and feel that this is merely 2017 all over agin.
However, a win vs KC in which they hold the offense to, let's say, 24 points will go a very, Very long way in giving me an optimistic view of our prospects for the rest of the season. Thus my statement that I'm giving the defense one game to impress me.

I hope it works out for you.

The hallmark of the 2-gap NT-type DL he's supposed to be is simply holding up the point of attack whether single or double teamed. He hasn't consistently done that - in fact he has had the opposite happen more often than not. He is not the Branch replacement we were promised.

This is very similar to the Steve Martin year of having to overcome not having that one guy that can absorb two freeing the other DTs and LBs to either make an easier 1-on-1 win or actually running free to the ball.

Uh 3 3rds?

I am not saying he is playing like Branch in 2015 and 2016. My point was that he is improving from the absolute garbage performances against the Jaguars and Lions. Maybe you have paid more attention to it than I did but how much NT was he really playing ?
