This roster seems to have a fair number of players who seem bored, unhappy, and apathetic. This is the NFL -- not a public school in the US. With that in mind, there can be no excuse for laziness and indifference.

I get the doubts that can derail a team that just lost the Super Bowl. But the level of whining and leaking to the press with this year's team makes the Patriots organization feel more like the White House than... well... the Patriots.

It is sad when the Dolphins are acting more like the Patriots than the Patriots. The Dolphins made it to 3-0 by cleansing their roster of the deadbeats and replacing the malcontents with great leaders like Amendola. Lolphins? Nah, there isn't anything funny about them valuing discipline more than the Patriots this season.

Let's hope Belichick will purge this roster of those who don't want to be here or don't even want to play football.

I'd rather we could purge the board of some of the trolls that only come to glee when adversity hits.
And I'd like to purge the board of the apologists who can't see this season is different. This isn't a squad that comes back in games or across the season. This is a team that folds under pressure. Look at the turnovers in crucial moments the past two weeks: this team just doesn't have "it."

Laugh all you want. This team needs to remove the negativity that is infecting the roster and do some rebuilding. We skated by with a diminishing roster for years. Now we look like last year's Seahawks team wondering when it all slipped away.

I want to make some moves asap to get talent around Brady before he retires at the end of the year because we didn't see the writing on the wall with this roster.

Week 3. It looks dire, but it can still get better. Get a grip.

That’s actually what I expected the thread to be about.
Yes, it was a misleading title. Glad we're all here to talk about this c***** f*** of a roster, though.

See you next week when/if the disciplined Dolphins (say that 5 times fast) come into town and beat us. If we go 1-3, will everyone finally agree it is time to discuss the failings of this roster?

There are obvious holes on both sides of the ball and it’s probably more like a 10-6 team than it is a 12-4 team, but I doubt that it’s signifying the end. Just my opinion.

In the meantime, anyone who is talking extreme on either side of the line is going to be a bit annoying, this week. Just my opinion.

Yes, for sure. I think we can still reasonably discuss them now, or after a (hopeful) win, next week, too.

They started 2-2 last season, ended 13-3. Get to 3-2 and nobody cares about Detroit beating us.
I don't like to bank on statistically improbable scenarios happening year after year. In prior seasons, we've managed to improve because our talent-level wasn't being matched by performance on the field. This year's club, conversely, has far less talent than past years. Only so much can be done with a team that is mediocre across the roster with the exception being a few major all stars (Hightower, D. McCourty, Gronk, Edelman, and Brady). When many of these all stars are not playing up to their ability anymore, though, that only magnifies the problems with the rest of the roster.

I'll be giddy if we go 13-3. But I wouldn't sit around here expecting that just because it happened before.

Why are you saying this while licking your chops?
Because this roster defies everything that makes the Patriots great. Lousy attitudes and dysfunction. I'm actively hoping this year gets the team back to the team-first approach it has had in past Super Bowl years. I love Patriots football that is team-first. This club doesn't have that vibe: from the offseason to preseason to regular season, this team just seems perfunctory and detached. In other words, this club feels like a wife about to file divorce papers.

There’s reason to be concerned, sure, because it’s not like you can point to just one thing (the OL play in 2014, for example) and pin a lot of the problems on that. However, the Pats with Belichick and Brady have more than earned the benefit of the doubt. I’m taking a wait and see approach.

I didn’t mean to call anyone out about the thread of the title. Just FWIW.

The roster has holes. I’ve broken it down and said my piece in the other threads, most notably the game day thread. In summary—The receivers blow. The LBs look slow. They won’t go anywhere without a running game, so they’ll need to make some phone calls or even promote Webb.

I agree with your stance to a degree and am aware of the holes. I admit, I am a bit worried as the Lions kicked our booty and success doesn't last forever. Though I wont doubt NE til I see 1-3, 2-4 or etc. 2014/2017 Patriots give me hope.

100% agree with you. This year can be salvaged with some phone calls and a few tweaks. If Edelman and Gordon gel, all the better. In the meantime, I'm really worried about this listless club having to face the 3-0 Dolphins who must be hungry for a win in Foxboro. Blood is in the water and they can sense it.
