Patriots Sign WR Corey Coleman

Draft slot means nothing at this point of his career. Don't make the mistake of assuming just because of where he was drafted that there has to be something special about him.

That being said it will be interesting to see if he can handle the McOffense and maybe more importantly being a WR4 with only a couple of snaps per game. Maybe he can follow the route Dorsett took last year busting his ass and being in a great position this preseason to become a starter.

Maybe some special team plays some reverse runs. He won't be asked to read the defense and run some option routes that is for sure.

His athleticism is off the charts. 4.39 40 and 40.5 vertical (wow !) at the combine. Allegedly was timed at 4.32 back in high school. His last year in college, caught 20 td passes ! So the talent is there. Is the dedication, Intelligence and heart there ? That’s going to be the main question.

He can threaten every level of the field and his route running has been pretty precise. His issues are his health (which should make him a perfect fit in New England... half joking) and the reported inability to digest the Jills' offense (hopefully fake news or he'll completely fail here). For low dollars, it's a very worthwhile investment. I'm just happy that Belichick recognizes the need at the position and decided to try to do something for it with what he has available.

I'm not optimistic. This guy has zero room for error here.

Corey Coleman - Player Profile Advanced Stats, Metrics & Analytics

One of the best analytical draft profiles for a WR in recent history. People asked for someone with talent above the typical scrap heap WR. Maybe we can turn him into a Woodhead/Lewis situation.

EDIT: Forgot about the other thread. Oops.

He has had return experience but as a featured offensive guy was not put out there in Cleveland or Baylor. . That could change here. Maybe your new punt returner. He's a 4.32 speed merchant. Salary is not guaranteed......JE insurance?
Now Dez and Barner( if Coleman isn't developed into a PR guy)
Anyway, with Dorsette, Patterson and Coleman the Pats might has the fastest three receiving trio in the NFL.

He won't be asked to read the D and run option route. Probably some really simple plays and special team plays.

I like this signing. He has talent. Worst that can happen is he doesn’t work out and he is released. We should do the same to Dez.

Just saw we also signed WR Bennie Fowler, formerly of the Broncos.

He can run deep routes. Could not stay healthy. Cut by the Bills...that is crazy. WTF is wrong with him.

In his defense, traditional receiver training does not include running down passes targeting the opposing defensive backs. The Bills may be better served using defensive backs as their receivers.

Doubt he lasts more than 6 weeks. Awful football IQ, questionable hands and rumored dedication/coachability issues

Bills took a $3.5 M dead money hit to cut him.
I don’t think that’s possible. Only the salary goes to the team that gets the player in a trade. The dead money would have stayed in Cleveland. The bills got out for free, except for the pick if it was not conditional.

This is the Patriot kind of move for the people wanting dez or Gordon.
Equally risky with similar upside.
Unlike dez he comes in with no demands which would lead to attitude problems and unlike Gordon if he delivers anything we don’t have to worry about disappearing one night.

Patriot risky moves are usually ones without fallout if they fail.
