Eric feckin Smith? Wow...just...who the FECK...unbelievable, yet so very, very believable.

You know what's funny? I can remember you being down on guys like Rich Ohrnberger and Jon Halapio and other O-Linemen the Pats drafted/brought in. Funny thing is that Halapio is now the starting center for the Giants. Ohrnberger had a journeyman career for himself..

I bet you were whining about the likes of Gorin, Ashworth, etc, as well.

So, what do you actually KNOW about Eric Smith? How much film of his have you watched? Do you even know what college he went to?

The punt returner thing isn't a big deal. Burkhead was working there this offseason, Chung's done it plenty before, and Patterson can probably do it in a pinch.

I was trying to remember all those punt returns by Chung. He returned 3 for 11 yards.

They actually got a draft pick for Gorin which shows it's often about timing.

In fairness, Chung has probably fair-caught a couple dozen. Or, would that make it " in fair-catchness"?

His career totals are 3 returns for 11 yards and 4 fair catches.

Well, now. That's not very fair-catchy, is it?

Seriously, I thought it would've been more over the course of his career. Up until the past couple seasons, he's likely played on all four ST units regularly.

Worth noting that Halapio needed five training camps before finally making an opening day roster

Good for him for sticking with it and developing into a viable candidate for a starting job on an awful team after bouncing around the league for years. It's a credit to him but it doesn't exactly reflect poorly on those who thought, at the time, that he wasn't NFL material. The league is full of guys who could probably find a roster spot for a year or two if they stuck with the game for 5 years of being cut or an afterthought in camp. Most guys give up after being out of work for a year or two. Most people, including talented scouts and GM's, lack the ability to project 5 years of development for a guy. I'm sure 10-15% or more of the guys cut by the Pats could land a roster spot somewhere in the league if they tried for that long.

I was going to post that. Good average on PR, not a huge sample, though. Doesn't seem like a serious candidate here, though. They should be able to develop a threat at PR, otherwise, why bother?
