3 TE Set In Passing Situations?.

Absolutely nothing.

I would.
No defense will respect our deep game enough to consistently place only 7 in the box...nor should they.
Tom Brady would eat a defense alive if it put 8 in the box. No one ever even tries it. It would be insane.

For the first four games:

I think we use Gronkowski and allen on running plays and Gronkowski and Hollister on pass plays.

Hogan lines up outside for everything. Then we have Dorsett or Patterson and the running back of choice, to try and mix and match.

The problem is, we are so depleted at wide receiver that we can’t open up the whole playbook.

That's a great way to let the opposing defense know what you're about to do.
Just like whenever Develin (or any other team's FB) is on the field, so what's the difference?

Not this season it wouldn't.
You are going to our 8 in the box against Brady gronk and hogan and Edelman. Good luck.
I hope whoever we meet in the SB gives you a job as DC.

We do Not have an NFL-calibre deep game. There is No reason whatsoever for Any DB to line up farther than the 1st-down marker.

Any defense that consistently puts 8 men in the box will be destroyed by Gronk going out wide.
Any defense that sees Gronk wide will provide coverage (CB or LB) at the LOS and shade a Safety to his side.

It’s rare that they leave a TE in to pass block, very rare.
It’s not like Hollister will flip to the ground and avoid defenders. Half of the blocks made by a guy playing his spot are not that important to begin with. He certainly can block as well as a wr, and us and every other team run 3 Wr packages.

When not split out, he often chips a linebacker before running his routes.

I was responding to the implication, perhaps unintended, that the Pats should/will always run the ball with Gronk + Allen, and pass with Gronk + Hollister. The Pats offense is already much more flexible and complex than that. Why make it simpler for the opposing defense?

They run play-action quite a bit with Develin in the backfield, and even split Develin out wide - probably more often than most people notice (mainly because the geniuses in the broadcast booth typically ignore it). Sometimes the Pats run out of that alignment, possibly depending on whether Develin draws an LB or a safety to cover him.

When he was with Indy, Allen often lined up in the backfield as a FB, and caught quite a few passes from that set.

The point is to keep the defense unable to count on the play being a run when the FB (or Allen) is on the field.

Let them. Gronk, hogan and the speedy backup receivers will have a field day.
This could be the worst take you have ever had, and that is saying a lot.

Then they don’t have 8 in the box.
Playing a cb or lb mtm on gronk and shading a softy is an automatic Brady to gronk completion, and leaves the middle of the field in the other side wide open.

Please please tell our opponents your strategy. We will break the nfl scoring record.

They've done this before and it doesn't work...

Burkhead is too high.

Interesting...I figure Burkhead to have as many targets (if not more) as Dorsett/Patterson. I think we missed out on opportunities to really integrate him in our offense last year due to injuries...I think he'll see more snaps this year and more targets.

You've got 8 in the box. You don't have the numbers to do that.

Interesting thread about Three TE set in passing situations but no mention of this Guy Will Tye. He seems like a decent move TE who is undersized but has put up ok numbers with the Gmen. Would BB carry Tye if he doesn't make a trade instead of a useless 5th WR??

If Gronk's tight to the formation, then use 8 in the box; if he splits wide, then double-cover him wide. Bottom line is, no DC this season will allow Gronk to beat them, nor will he place Any of his Safeties 20 yards from the LOS.

Want to bet on that?
