The wide receiving corps is four deep. One of the four isn't available until week five. Two of the remaining three are showing some promise, but have yet to prove it on the field for the Patriots. This is a position to watch for moves being made in the run up to week one.

IDK. His competition for #4 safety is Richards, Travis and Pleasant.
What do you think about the 4th safety spot, so far? I haven’t had a chance to see last night’s game yet, but I’m guessing that it’s probably close to 50/50 between Richards and Pleasant.

IDK. Richards still seems like the better special teamer, and I'm not sure that Pleasant has shown himself to be significantly better than Richards in scrimmage play.

I'm not entirely kidding about JMac being the #4 safety. He's not horrible at CB, and he seems pretty good playing off coverage, keeping the play in front of him - much better than either Richards or Pleasant. The problem, of course, is that he's unlikely to contribute much on ST.

There needs to be a different format for preseason games aside of making a lot of cash for the owners..

Sat back last night hoping to get a glimpse of what to expect in game #1, but the game was like watching grass grow.. is it me or are there seemingly more commercials than usual??

The only good thing about last night was the announcing of Socci and Zolak, really like the perspective of Ninkovich he gives great insight.. Perrilo and Hart are just a distraction to try to sell their PFW...

Couple of observations, the call for a new WR is difficult as it has taken a year for some of the newer WR's to get up to speed with #12, so expecting receiver X to come in and fill a role is difficult..

Thought I saw a different defense in Games #1 and 2, but last night looked like same old either that or it was a classic "ropa dopa" to help the other teams sleep on the NEP...

BB pulling the three Pats who were cheerleading after a stop on a two point conversion and schooling them on how to behave is classic...

Did not see any helmet penalties, but then I went to bed at the end of the 3rd quarter...

Waddle better take a couple of doses of smart pills to avoid stupid penalties..

I seems to me that Cy Jones put himself in the mix with Lewis, Crossen and Jackson for a CB spot last night. He didn't look awful on KR, either.

BTW, I thought it was interesting that the Panthers seemed to be kicking away from Patterson. I also thought it was notable that, on the kick that Develin fielded, Patterson raced over from the other side of the field to throw a block for him.

Not happy with Hoyer. Hopefully we'll see Etling next week.

I hope you are aware that the reason we have seen essentially nothing from Etling so far is most likely because like Bojorquez he most probably has shown nothing to earn time.

If Hoyer starts next week, I might skip my first patriots game since 95 against the Falcons.

I am not sure what anyones issue with Hoyers game yesterday was. He missed the throw to Decker and threw an INT waiting to happen towards McCarron but apart from that looked solid with some good throws.

Seriously what exactly was your issue with Hoyer yesterday ? And please be specific because he actually hit most of this throws. I really dont understand what the baseline here is for some..

HE MISSED A WIRE OPEN PATTERN'S SUN CUT HIM

Interesting.

And yet he still looked better than Richards.

Brady: 12/18, 67%
Hoyer: 16/24, 67%

Finally Dorsett got some targets and he made the most out of it. On that short pass by Brady where he ran around defenders for a first down he looked so much more elusive than Cooks ever did in space last year. He might have a slower top speed but he seems to be quicker in space.

CP had more or less the ideal game you could imagine. Yes some routes were not perfectly run but if he can give us a little bit of this in each game of the regular season then he will be a nice piece that defenses have to take seriously.

Am really happy for Cyrus. He had a good bounce back game after his ST shenanigans 2 years ago and then his ACL last year. He had up and downs as DB yesterday but looked good as returner.

Good play by Grigsby on several ST returns and then he also got some LB snaps. Looked fast. Pretty much a roster lock for me.

Some encouraging snaps by Rowe. Gilmore not having his best day.

It felt like not the best day for our OL and DL. But I lost track about snap counts and how much the staff was rotating people around.

I am not sure if Decker will make this team. McCarrons bad drops might help him in the end but him still not getting any snaps with the 1s spells problems.

Also WTF was this PI call on DMac ?

Crossen with PBU. Great bounce back from last week's debacle.

Debacle?? Sorry you couldn't watch his whole game besides those PI calls . he had a monster rookie game vs PHI . defending run & pass . tackling, breaking up plays.. If he doesn't make the team and is lost on waivers Ill be pretty pissed..

Played 1st unit ST this time so Im relatively confident they are keeping him.

That is right. What I like most in Crossen is his confidence and truculence. Of course he needs to learn a lot but to me he is a nice, developmental prospect and I wish he would make the roster.
BTW - tackling is still our shortcoming and sometimes Crossen in that element looks like a pro in a comparison to his teammates.

Two DPI's last week. Earning a DPI is a great way to end up in BB's doghouse because it's essentially giving another life to a drive. But that wasn't not to be expected because he's such a raw talent (hence falling to the 7th round). However, he did show enormous upside as you said, and seems to be a fast learner, judging from last night.

That will happen when you're not playing your top 2 rushers so far so its a not a big deal to me.

Tonight didn't seem like an "all out game plan" from the staff but rather a "let's see what we have" game.

After 2-0 preseason start . BBs only “game plan“ might've been not to win this one.. (along with showing zero to HOU)

Actually BB didn't play 3 of top 4 edge guys. Clayborn and Rivers saw just a few snaps and mostly tested as inside rushers iirc. Without showing his hand to HOU he probably just wanted to see Wise improve on run defending . he didn't have a good start but improved later on.

Not sure I understand where "showing some promise" is coming from. That would only apply to Patterson. Dorsett and Hogan have proven themselves beyond a doubt, and Patterson isn't far behind although the routes he runs are limited, and his presence on the field does limit what the offense can do, at least on one side of the field.
