Well, as much as I would like to see an improvement in the depth and possibly player for the future at a reasonable cost (Boston had 5 INTs last year), I do think that you’re right. There’s no way Belichick was going to dedicate more money at the position after recently extending both Chung and Harmon.

But...if it’s somehow under 3m dollars a year, I’m still going to be annoyed. :) Ultimately, I don’t think Bill saw much reason to spend any money at a position that has three quality players (and Richards).
Bummer. Even though it was nothing close to a “need,” I’m still mildly annoyed. Moving Richards would have saved about 1m dollars, so we could have swapped in Boston for a total cap hit of about 1.5m or so.

Of course, I understand that it was a pipe dream and that Richards still provides ST reps. Let’s just hope there aren’t any injuries at the position.

Here's a good explainer of the Aaron Donald situation. He's holding out currently:

Here's an interesting stat from that article:

i.e. teams that overpay any single player other than their QB tend to do worse. Of course, 7 of those 28 teams were the Pats. But that's worth keeping in mind when you hear the (misguided) argument that "The Patriots never pay their players".
Looking at those 4 teams it was also fluky.
Atlanta in 2016 for Julio who is now holding out.
Carolina in 2015 for Charles Johnson who has done nothing then or since.
Arizona in 2015 (pat pete) who have fallen apart since
Sf in 2012 (p Willis) they had one more good year and he was gone the year after.

Just seen Bucky Hodges has been released... thoughts on bringing him as a camp body?

He signed pleasant who is veteran Richards competition.

Seems like Payton was not kidding about the Bachelorette business.. 14 WRs now
(patsfans darling Carr getting some more competition)

btw - Vaccaro signed for 1y/1.1M base w zero guaranteed.
Prices stay down this time of year despite needs opening..
