Gronk doesn't perfect his craft? If he didn't do that here he would have been released.
Compared to Gonzo? Put it this way, if you put Gronk and Moss into Gonzo and Rice’s bodies they would not go to the extremes those guys did to hit that level. They are just freaks

It's not misusing words at all. I've used those exact words in this exact same type of debate before with countless other fans who get the concept. Just because you can't grasp this simple concept doesn't mean I'm stupid. If you'd like, to make it easier, we can arrange a time to discuss this in person so I can draw it out for you with crayons. Maybe that'll help you understand it better Epically Stupid Andy
Let's not spend time calling each other stupid. Let's just agree to disagree and move on and avoid that going forward.

It's Preseason. Folks is just warming up for the GDT.

I think I would want Fitz before Owens. Tough call.
This is where it gets tough with WRs. Are you ranking their production or their value to their team? One dynamic is that top WRs and championships don’t correlate very well.
Personally I downgrade TO because he was a distraction and ultimately unwanted in all of his stops.
So I would certainly put fitz ahead of him.
I’d also put Calvin Johnson ahead of him.
Others I would put ahead of him include
Harrison, Smith, Andre Johnson, largent, Irvin, with a few others that I’d need to consider more closely, particular past era guys

Lol at giving Ian a disagree.

I never checked Ian's page before but he's only gotten 24 disagrees and 15 dislikes, ever.

He also gave out 3 dislikes. I wonder who had to screw up so badly that they got one of those?

Reactions: Ian
It’s the same thing as the Gronk vs Gonzo argument. One is an elite level athlete that was so dedicated he perfected his craft at the position to blow by his peers and accumulate all the records and the other was a freak of nature in dominance

Not really the same thing. That right now is more of an argument about longevity than ability. Gronk does everything better than Gonzo. The only difference is Gonzo so far has done it longer and because of his style of play managed to stay healthier.

It would be equivelant to people holding it against Calvin Johnson or Jim Brown that they retired with plenty of good football still in them and say guys who were never as good but played longer where better.

Moss and Rice is different for a few ones. Firstly, Moss was pretty much done when he retired. Another was both players at their peak where amazing but had different skill sets. Also there are a number of things each objectively does better than the other to a large degree which is why this is a debate worth having.

I doubt any of the other ones are related to him instructing people how he wants them to act on HIS board, but you never know.

Unfortunately Ian doesn’t have enough time to really participate in the football talk around here because he usually offers thoughtful unbiased opinions. Id imagine the dislike/disagrees are more related to when he does get the chance to opine.

Thats my take on TO as well. Just a pain in the ass which is why I pick Fitz. TO was still awesome.

I'd take Irvin over them as well.

Look at Don Hutson. He was back in the 40s but every year he led the league in catches, yards and TDs by wide margins.

In the hypothetical "Imagine if player X had Montana/Young or Brady throwing to him his whole career, would he be the best ever?" question, Fitz is the guy to challenge Rice for the throne over Moss, IMO. Like Rice, he could paper-cut you to death all day underneath, then torch you just when you started playing closer to the LOS.

Regards,
Chris

The tough one would be whether or not to take either Fitz in his prime or Megatron in his prime. That 2008 postseason by Fitz was one of the more dominant postseason runs by a WR I have ever witnessed. He literally carried that team on his back.

Agree. I love Fitz. I think hes one of the greatest receivers ever. He can run any route. Blazing speed back when he was younger.

I really don't know what I would do. Can't go wrong thats for sure...

Megatron is the Sandy Koufax of the NFL. 5-6 years of ridiculous greatness. Can easily argue hes a 1st ballot HoFer. Could not be convered

At 40 years old Rice was putting up 1200 yards and 7 TDs.

Rice all the way.

I tried not to go back too far. Largent was pushing it but he was unbelievable. Once you get to the early 80s, 70s and 60s it gets complicated.
Personally I would take guys like Stallworth, Morgan, Carmichael, Mel Gray, Biletnikoff, Branch, Joiner, Warfield, alworth, Harold Jackson etc over a TO but the difference in eras makes the comparison impossible, plus if we are talking about the best WRs playing in an era where WRs are more important is a big plus to their argument.
One of the reasons Brady is the GOAT is that QB play today has more to do with winning than it used to.

Loved Largent.

Wes Chandler in 1982 was absurd. 1000yds in 1/2 a season. On that same vein, before SD traded JJ Jefferson he was the best WR in the AFC. Once he went to GB he was very average. Big difference between Fouts and Lynn ****ey.
