Book claims that Brady was furious with Kraft after Deflategate.

One of those weird messages said 'damn Brady's right the refs ****ed us.....they were supposed to be at 13' hahaha

When Wells was asked about this, he maintained that Brady stating he wanted footballs right in the middle of the permitted range was proof of a desire to deflate footballs.

One of my favorite parts of the testimony was when Kessler asked Wells, "Were you aware of the Ideal Gas law ?" ........ "No I wasn't".... hahahahha

Yeah that’s exactly the ones I’m referring to. In a vacuum they look bad but when you know the whole story they are easily explained.

Actually, the exchange that bothered me and still bothers me was this one:

J: Can’t wait to give you your needle next week
M: F—k Tom...make sure the pump is attached to the needle....f—kin watermelons coming.
J: So angry.
M: The only thing deflating sun...is his passer rating.

That just doesn’t look good, no two ways about it. Especially the “the only thing deflating Sunday is his passer rating” crack. That only makes sense if some other thing is usually deflating on Sundays. That’s why I would not be surprised to find out someday that these two mooks had some scheme to deflate balls back to 12.5 if the refs pumped them up.

Red Herring...Goodell spent 20 million for "Article 46!". Deflator, deflating, dedoinking , de-anything had nothing to do with it. The intent was to diminish Brady, build up Eli and keep Moonhead as the de facto face of the league. Are you seriously going to tell me that ,even if true, what Brady did and the sanctions against him are anywhere NEAR the planet where STEROID HGH is shipped to YOUR wife while YOU are recovering from MAJOR SURGERY, and ...."CRICKETS"? It was his wife's HGH?? Goodell actually innocently believed this horseshyt? Yet that is exactly what they want YOU to believe.

No. Why can't you just SEE what the **** really happened using your own goddamned common sense. It was a deliberate, planned, slanderous attack on a completely innocent man, a man that SHOULD be held as the paragon, the beacon of what is RIGHT in the NFL. These are human beings. Men with MONEY. More money than any of us(I presume) could even envision in a hundred lifetimes. You actually think men like these have acquired a pure sense of fairness, of right and wrong in their lives? Hell no. John Mara is as vicious a ****in' scumbag elitist old money Brahmin as there is in any sport. I'm not Jewish but I know blatant racism when I see it and Mara's attempts from the start in 2006 aimed at Robert Kraft cannot be explained away. Not after repeated lies and attempts to destroy a competitor whose only failing is "he's one of the new blood". How many times has THIS dichotomy been shoved down our throats since 2006? No, he's Bob Kraft...the guy that saved our franchise and built one of the preeminent business models in ANY sport. THAT should have been embraced by the other owners but, even though they all are engaged in a non stop treasure bath, the jealous, twisted, vindictve hate of these modern day Salieri's are still focused on the Mozart of the NFL.

This league is rotten at the core.

I’m in the camp that no intentional deflation took place and that any measurements below the limit were due to the ideal gas law. So if this email referencing intentional deflation with a needle is true, I’m a little weirded out. Seems like a really random thing to predict / accuse if it weren’t actually happening.

Sometime during the whole investigation/punishment/appeal, a story came out that Jacksonville had complained to the league that they had seen Colts sideline personnel hiding ball needles inside the sleeves of their shirts.

Maybe the Colts heard from Baltimore that something funny was going with the footballs during the Ravens-Patriots game the week before and figured the Patriots were tampering with footballs the same way they were. As it turned out, the issue with footballs in the divisional game that year was caused by a league employee, but no one knew that at the time.

Not sure I heard that story about Colts people tampering...interesting. I guess when you’re guilty of something you start suspecting other people of doing the same thing.

I do remember the league employee stealing the kickoff footballs to resell them later, or something like that. That was messed up because it came out the same time as Deflategate started and just added to the confusion.

Unfortunately, every time I chose to tune into Sportstalk radio this week they were discussing this... most recently Bertram was talking about how the real target was the Pats Organization... IMO the target of all of the Deflategate Brouhaha was BB.. based on the theory that if Goodell could get rid of him then this franchise would suffer irreparable damage..

When BB opted out of this mess, Goodell has started the mission so his next best target became #12.. if he could not get BB he would go after him, Brady's not rolling over on Jastremski and Mcnally has less to do with those guys specifically, the alleged deal would have meant that Brady would admit knowledge of what was going on, thus complicit in the whole affair...

Then Sportstalk radio morphed into criticism of Dombrowski and whether or not the RS were built for the postseason, time to change the station again..

Yeah, one would not use a pump to deflate, so not seeing that as indicative of anything. There was also the exchange about "getting them ready" that people went nuts over. That was the guys job to "get them ready" the week before the game. You know before the officials checked them out.

Disagree. He’s talking about a pump there because he’s talking about overinflating balls (“watermelons coming”) to get back at Brady because he’s real/pretend angry at Brady.

More to the point, what’s the point in saying “make sure the pump is attached to the needle” unless most of the time the pump is *not* attached to the needle? Especially coupled with “the only thing deflating Sunday is his passer rating” crack. Why use the word “deflate” there at all? And it doesn’t make sense to use the phrase “the only thing” unless there are usually *other things* deflating.

Don’t get me wrong - I believe Brady didn’t have anything to do with this. I think he respects the game too much to screw around like that. And it is clear as a bell that nothing at all happened at the AFCCG. Exponent pretty much proved that nothing happened even though Goodell pretended it didn’t. But I was and will always be suspicious of Jastremski and McNally and think there’s a decent chance they were doing something on their own and that something was deflating back to 12.5 if the refs left them higher.

It drives me crazy how sports radio in this town is *****ing about how the farm system is void of talent when this team is on a pace to win 112 games.

I was hoping that the book would address some of those points, but I’m guessing it doesn’t.

The Jets game with the overinflated ball was in the 2013 season. It was not unintentional, instead it was an attempt by the Goodell regime to attempt a soft fix of that game.

Why I believe Deflategate was a planned setup is this: the Wells report description of the pregame ball protocol states the balls are not to be unattended by a game official once inflated. Why would you form a conspiracy to deflate the balls when you would not, under normal circumstances, have unsupervised access to the balls after they were inflated? Did Brady, Jastremski, and McNally plot for the NFC Championship Game to go long, so they’d have the diversion needed to take the balls? No, the more likely scenario is one of the officials in on the real conspiracy told McNally to take the balls to the field without him. That he stopped to take a wiz for 93 seconds was a plus to the NFL. If he hadn’t, we would never have known of the surveillance video, and they would have just said he tampered with the balls along the way to the field.

Prosecutor: These texts between the defendant and his friend are very fishy. These texts about wanting to kill Mr. Jones. Hence the charge of first degree murder against the defendant.

Defense attorney: Yes, but Mr. Jones isn't dead. He was never attacked or killed.

Prosecutor: Yes but these texts talk about them wanting to kill Mr. Jones.

Defense attorney: Yes but Mr. Jones is sitting in this courtoom very much alive and unhurt and, in fact, unattacked.

Prosecutor: Yes but the texts.

Defense attorney: You don't get it. Nobody actually attacked, hurt, or killed Mr. Jones.

Prosecutor: Yes but the tex --

Defense attorney: Nobody. Attacked. Or. Hurt. Or. Killed. Mr. Jones. Because. He's. Right. Here. In. The. Courtroom. Completely. Unhurt.

Agree. I think that the ball boys MAY on occasion have adjusted pressure down to League Rules after the Jets blimp ball complaints by TFB.

And as to Brady getting accolades here for not throwing these guys under the bus, it isn't only because Tom is a great guy.
Had he thrown them under, opposing fans would then have proof the the Pats are cheaters. Plus, they could also say rich guy Tom showed selfish low character tossing blue collar working stiffs under the bus to avoid responsibility & his suspension. Maximizing his lifetime stats were more important to Tom than the ordinary folk who worked with him.
So Tom's refusal had lots of programmatic (Correction: Pragmatic) reasons why not.
Most of all because the Patriots had NOT deflated the balls since the low temperature had done the deed.

It was 2014, not 2013.

Not sure I would go to the levels of conspiracy you outline. Much more of it can be explained by front office and referee incompetence.

I agree 100%, but I still think it’s fine to believe that the IGL was the only reason the footballs lost pressure, while still being curious why other teams were accusing the Pats of deflating footballs before the Colts game, or trying to understand the context for some of the texts that were sent.

You’re missing my point. I already said nothing happened in the AFCCG. The Wells report data on the balls proves nothing was done to those balls.

But that doesn’t make Jastremski and McNally sound any less shady in general. I’m with @PatsWickedPissah — I will not be surprised to find out one day that J&M were deflating balls back down to 12.5. (Which they did not do at the AFCCG because that time the refs left them at 12.5).

That makes sense, but it makes so much sense you have to wonder why they didn't use it as an explanation, if it was the truth.

The officials over-inflate the footballs for the Jets game. Brady is mad and lets McNally and Jastremski know he's upset. Those two are mad that the officials screwed up the balls they prepared and that they had to hear about from Brady. Between the two of them, they decide to double check the footballs after the officials approve them to make sure they aren't over-inflated. Brady didn't know and the coaches didn't know. It was just two equipment guys who got burned once and decided independently to make sure it didn't happen again. They're "doing their job." After the controversy in the 2014 AFCCG, they confess and get in trouble, most likely losing their jobs. The team gets fined and everyone moves on. No suspension for Brady, no lingering questions, and no lost draft pick, at least not a first rounder.

If that's the way it went down and J & M didn't come clean when they saw how serious this was getting and what the stakes could be, then they are as much villains in this story as Goodell and his henchmen. If someone was faced with losing their job if they told the truth, I could potentially see them lying to save themselves. Not everyone is going to be honorable in that situation. Or maybe they didn't do anything except tell dumb jokes about their job. It really would be great to hear directly from Jastremski and McNally as some point.
