Unfortunate: Jordan Matthews put on IR

Most considered him a lock with the way he was playing.
He was playing well, but the guys ahead of him were playing better and the guys behind him are the top KR and potentially top PR. Just a numbers game, not any indictment of Matthews' ability.

He was looking really good, according to reports. Surprised they decided to cut him. I wonder if he will be back later on in the year.

Giardi seems to disagree with looking good.

Sucks for Matthews but lets see if there is a corresponding WR move and also whats up with Britt. They have been very patient with him so he must have left a better impression (flashed more potential) than Matthews I would think.

We're in desperate need of receivers, so he must've really sucked if he got released. lol. Damn, I miss Cooks.

Well, I always thought it was 50 receptions or nothing from him. Guess it's the latter.

When edelman gets back, we still have edelman, hogan, decker/bryant (presumably), dorsett and patterson. Still in decent shape. An injury to edelman or hogan would be devastating though.

Probably was a Grade 3 tear -- that has a some serious recovery time.
I am surprised at the tweet that he wasn't impressing. Most of the commentators I read seemed to think that he looked very strong in the early phases of training.

Looks like Decker will be the next guy up. For sure, a better choice that Dez, both in terms of fit and price. Although I think Dez still has upside, with Hogan and Dorsett (and, at times Gronk), we have the middle / deeper ranges reasonably covered, and we traditionally are not a long ball offense in any event. With Matthews and Edelman out (for a portion), a good slot / slant / short pass guy is a great need, and I think Decker can fit that need better, in my view.

I don’t know how we are in desperate need for WRs. No matter what happened there were multiple vets not making the team.

At most 5 of:
Edelman
Hogan
Patterson
Britt
Mitchell
Dorsett
Matthews

One down still at least one more to go.

You forget Britt. He was looking like the best before getting hurt. Should return soon.

On Kenny Britt I will believe him when we see him.

If they put him on IR he's have been lost for the season most likely. At least this way, should he heal and there be a need, he could be brought back at some point during the season. I liked the signing when they made it. Too bad we won't see any game action with him on the team.

IR designation? I'm guessing the endgame here is to sign him back when healthy.

I will throw a name out there..."WR:Brandon Coleman Saints 6'6 225lbs" hasn't really set the world on fire but ok numbers I guess maybe more Jag than anything else. I mean beggars can't be choosers think BB and Peyton can make a deal. And did I mention he's a Rutgers guy like Britt.

I assume he was waived with an injury designation, in which case he reverts back to Pats' IR if nobody claims him. Good move, let some other team take on the risk of paying him hoping he'll recover if they want, while clearnig a roster spot for Decker or whoever. Would not be surprised if Mathews is back when he recovers. Or red-shirted for the year, if recovery takes too long.
