Adam Butler Mega Thread!!

He's not the quickest cat. But with the pads on today he stood out once or twice to me. I have high hopes for his and Wise's continued improvement.

I heard he was caught with weeds in his his backyard. Nothing a little roundup cant fix!

Butler—yes. Has some versatility. I see him making the team.

Butler & Guy have to do a better job of stopping the run than they did last season, or Bill needs to find 2 other DTs who will, and I don't mean John Atkins & Frank Herron. Jonathan Hankins is still available.

Due to the lack of a viable NT/0-tech last season, it seems to me that both Butler and Guy were tasked with playing way more 1-tech than they're really suited for. Plus, until Harrison arrived in late December, the only consistent edge-setting 5-tech was Trey Flowers.

With Shelton on the roster and Valentine back, Butler and Guy may be able to focus more on 3-tech/4-tech roles, which may "fix" the issue.

Adam Butler isn't really built for a NT role at all. He's a 4-3 DT, from what i remember he's got a very quick first step

Butler measured 6037 (6'4") and 280 before the draft last season. That 280 was significantly down from his college playing weight, and he's now listed at a pseudo-official 300 on the roster at patriots.com.

To me, he seems more suited for a 3-tech/4-tech role (3-4 DE type) in the NFL, with situational use as a 1-tech. However, due to the lack of healthy bodies for the interior DL last year, Butler ended up playing a crap-tonne of 1-tech (with Brown trying to play NT/0-tech), as did Guy (also better-suited for a 3-tech/4-tech role, IMHO).

I don’t see butler playing DT except on obvious passing downs.
Shelton, brown, valentine should get the majority of snaps on early downs with guy knocked down to rotational snaps

I think butler’s best role is inside pass rusher on passing downs; 3rd and long, 2 minute, and when having a large lead forcing the other team to throw every down.

I mean, for his size, he does have some real quickness. If you’ve ever seen an obese cat run after a mouse, I’d say the two compare well.

Valentine?

I'll believe that when (or, more likely than not, if) I see it.
