If BB is texting him, there is a reason. It could be as simple as he likes him and wants what's best for him while not impacting the Patriots negatively ( i.e. sending him to an NFC team versus an AFC one that he would face more often...Or he could be laying the groundwork for future reunion...
Look at the video of BB at the predraft workout. I forget who it was but one of the top drafted D lineman ( top 10) who the Pats had no chance of drafting. Belichick was working on his technique with him. Why do it if you know you have no chance of drafting the guy? Maybe when his contract is up or if something happens, you've built up goodwill....

If we've learned anything over the years, it's that while we're playing checkers, Belichick is playing is playing 3D chess at masters level.....Every once in a while there is something that appears to be a glitch ( Butler in SB) but we don;t know the backstory....

It’s embarrassing. But I put much more importance into the confirmation that Bill dumped Jimmy on the 49ers with literally no negotiations and no due diligence. The 49ers were shocked that Bill called asking for just a 2nd round pick and literally accepted the trade within 10 minutes. Bill put his own ego to want to see his guy succeed ahead of doing even the bare minimum to get the best return he could get for the team. It’s nothing less than insubordination.
