I don't think you can field your best team without team discipline. Otherwise it's anarchy. The bigger the stage the more critical this becomes.

I wasn't even considering my sources story when I said that. Your basically blaming your brother for ratting you out to mom and ignoring that you actually did something wrong. Only difference is in my hypothetical BB would be both your brother and mom who punishes you. But point is you despite not knowing all the facts you can either choose to believe BB was warranted or you can be an ass about it.

Straw man whatever you want to call it but it must suck to be in your shoes if your favorite team had people in such high power that you don't believe capable of making good sound and warranted decisions at the biggest moment.

Forgive me for not wanting to read through hundreds of pages if you’ve already posted it somewhere, but what is your sources story when it comes to this butler situation?

He still owes all of the season ticket holders - hell, he still owes EVERY SINGLE FECKIN PERSON who bought merchandise, concessions, parking space, single-game tickets last season - an explanation.
I agree we are owed an explanation but it more on the organization Bills job is to HC and GM not to PR.

Eh, I feel like at least 28 NFL fanbases don’t really trust their head coaches to make good decisions a lot of the time. Just because BB blew it with Butler doesn’t mean we will stop rooting for him to succeed as the head coach of the Patriots, and believing he will do so.

And it sux to be a fan of most of those teams.

The explanation was that it was a "football decision", right? Does Shank really expect to get more than that, even if he holds his breath until he turns blue?

Forgive me for not wanting to answer and defend a story for another 6,000 posts. I'd rather argue from the position that I trust BB made the decision for a valid reason as I %100 believe this than be stuck to a story which I heard from a reliable source but have no way to actually verify.

Sounds like something Chris Mortensen would say when the sharks get close.

Where is TennisBallHead to comment on this? He always has funny comments about BB.

Whether it was a monumental lapse in competence or character it cost my favorite team of 40+ years a championship, and it will not be forgiven.

I want to apologize for the above run-on sentence. It sounds like it was written by a hyperventilating snowflake drama queen. And, I assure I’m no hyperventilating snowflake.

Not only do I believe Belichick benched Butler to protest Kraft’s interference. He also benched himself and only passively involved himself in the game. Again, re-watching the Super Bowl broadcast and other NFL films broadcasts his lack of interaction with other coaches, his players and the officials is striking compared to his normal levels of interaction during other games.

Now, I’m not saying we should give him a cigarette and blindfold and assemble a firing squad, but his actions and inaction on that day will be as big a spot on his legacy as Spy gate and should be bigger.

His performance at today’s press conference was pathetic but predictable. All he had to say was “in retrospect I would have handled that situation better” and not answered another question on the subject. Just a little contrition but Gods don’t answer to mortals.

I do hope he’s man enough to apologize to those players who worked their butts off running those hills and put their trust with him to do all he can to help them win. Doubt it though.

I don't recognize the woman between Gopher and Capt Stubing. I know Julie got axed b/c she was a coke head.
You're right and I don't recall there being a non-Julie.

I looked it up on IMDB and see a role of Cruise Director Judy McCoy by Pat Klous (55 episodes) and Julie/Lauren Tewes has 199 episodes.

Seems there was 250 episodes for the whole show.

Darn you!!! you're trying to make my joke to tony into something semi-useful

Edit/Factoid: Teri Hatcher appeared in 19 episodes.

I thought once Tewes was fired they made Vicky the new cruise director. I just don't remember Judy.

The larger question was why the hell did I watch that show as a kid in the first place?

There was a new Love Boat a few years ago. Robert Urich (RIP) was the new Stubing and Joan Severance was the new Julie. She was a fox.

This assumes team discipline nosedives when the team themselves didn't even know why Butler was benched. You either start the best squad outright or if you feel the need to punish the player, you bench him for a quarter or a half and put him back in when it becomes evident that what you're doing out there isn't working, adjustments are needed, and the player is leaving in the offseason anyway. To not do that is to do what Belichick did and cost your team the Super Bowl.

Comedy gold.

It's not "whatever I want to call it." You're straw man-ing away at this thread.

Actually, I trust him to make the right decisions and, when he doesn't, I'm critical. Pretty simple stuff. I know that comes across as shocking on a board where some a generous percentage of the posters trust him to make the right decisions and, when he doesn't, they do mental gymnastics using generous portions of logical fallacies to convince themselves that he did. But that's the way it is.

The great Andy Johnson disagrees with you.

Just agree to disagree. There comes a point where you can’t change anyone’s mind. You are not the only one that think Butler playing would have changed the outcome. I’d say more than half our team thinks the same way too.

someone remind me

who the f*ck is Malcolm Butler?

If anyone is making bad assumptions it is you. You're assuming you can you tell us what an adequate punishment is without knowing what happened to begin with.

I know we are all butthurt from the loss and even more annoyed by no explanation. But to me it comes down to a few simple things do you think Butler did something? Do you trust BBs only motivation is what's best for the football team?

For all you oldies out there.

And us oldies know what show followed The Love Boat on ABC...

Ricardo Montalban: "Smiles, everyone! Smiles! Our new guest Bill Belichick is going to give a press conference on why he benched Malcom Butler. Welcome to Fantasy Island!"

Regards,
Chris
