Patriots exploring trade options with Mitchell; team is high on Kenny britt

I believe jones should have warranted at least a first round pick in return

In what universe does someone in his fifth year option part of the rookie contract looking for a big payday warrant a first round pick ?

We jumped about 40 spots and a full year by not letting him leave via FA. It was a good return. A team that grossly overpays like the Rams did for Cooks doesn't come around every year.

I believe Matthews production is not his problem. The problem is his health. If he avoids injuries he might be a hell of a player as a slot WR. Similar story to Amendola being a Rams' member.

We got a first rounder for a 30 year old Richard Seymour. Jones at 25 coming off a 13 sack season and pro bowl berth should have warranted a higher return.

Isn’t he already expected to miss training camp? So frustrating...No team would make a trade for him.

The Britt comment echos what Reiss said in June at OTAs. I think he is shaping up to be our potential yearly surprise.

Regarding Mitchell, dang.

April Fools a little late don't you think?? What's next Dorsett ahead of Mitchell on dept chart??

Assuming this report is accurate:

1.) With Edelman out...and Mitchell being traded for anything...we now have:

Hogan, Slater (Gunner), Matthews, and Patterson as locks, IMO.

Britt, Dorsett, Berrios, and McCarron are all competing for 2 spots...and one of them will have to show a lot in the first 4 weeks to stick around.

2.) Britt starting camp on PUP is not good news, IMO. Hollister too....NFI list.

3.) I liked the Lucien re-sign. He was great in camp in the summer of 2016...catching everything in sight when I watched him myself.

Slater and Patterson are not quality dept WR's by any stretch of the imagination...color me worried.

And, if true, that's a wrap for the thread and, probably, Mitchell's career.

Sucks he is talented too...his retirement should be announced shortly. I hope he can walk normally after this.

Seymour was arguably the best DL in the NFL and the first was a year later (which you could trade a current 2nd to get)
Jones was a guy who got some sacks but struggled at the end of the season and in the playoffs.

Hogan is very good in this system he’s at worse 850 Yards a season guy here.

Matthews seems to be going the right way from what I’ve seen another guy who could get another 850 yards and there’s also our Backs as well as that guy called Gronk?

I think we’re just worried about nothing really. Brady has had worse WRs and won with them. We will be fine this year! Give me 12-4 and I’m all good

Follow up reporting (I don't have it in front of me to link) indicates that the the "surgery" was a procedure intended to speed healing, as opposed to something more significant.

How is Hogan's floor more yards than he's ever gained in one season? I think we have reason to believe he'll put up good numbers without Edelman, but 4 weeks in and Hogan won't be the #1 anymore. After that I would expect similar production to the last two years.

Who last year received 5 votes for NFC defensive player of the year

Actually, as usual, color you stupid. Patterson absolutely is quality depth. He has put up solid 3rd 4th WR numbers most of his career. He was #4 with Derek Carr last year on a team where the #1 WR did not even break 700 yards.

Year before that = 453 yards with Sam Bradford.

I am not claiming him to be a pro bowler or a better option than JE, CH, JM, KB but he is as good as any 4th WR in the league.

Now he goes from DC/SB TB.

Why would anyone compare Patterson to Slater unless they were an idiot.

So. He still isn’t worth the contract.

Seems B.B. struggles to find maximum value in trades. He traded currently the highest paid player in nfl history to 49ers for only a mid second round pick...when their were high first round offers from the browns on the table.

No I think you have unreasonable expectations.
No way you get more for Jones in a contract year.
The browns offers were at the draft and it was worthwhile to keep jag as long as possible on the event your 40 year old QBs gets injured.
If the price of insurance for that on a SB caliber team is getting a 2nd instead of a first it’s a fair price.
In this case trading when your value is low was wise because the insurance it provided was worth it.

We can take Hollister off the WR list, too.

So? The team projected him as a WR/KR/PR in their system.

They deserve credit for the foresight in burning a 7th rounder on the potential.
Yeah, no one on the planet thought he was drafted to play QB.
