OT - World Cup 2018 Thread

Eh blah blah blah this tournament is the same every year. I'm rooting for Mexico to take it all the way but I have a feeling they're not gonna make it either. They're from CONCACAF after all. Not good for ratings. It will probably be Croatia or Portugal or something like that. Watched 2 matches in the last few days, and honestly looking back there was 0 reason to have seen any of the ones I didn't see. Really only have 1 match to watch per day, and that's Mexico. That likely won't last long the way this is going. This has to be the least competitive sporting event in the world

I am rooting for Brazil and Portugal but Portugal left me unimpressed today. Those final minutes where abysmal.

We might get brazil vs Germany in the round of 16. I do wanna see something different for a chance but it’s difficult. Sweden could have eliminated Germany and they instead played not to lose.

Yeah, but it doesn't sound like Portugal was even trying either. All they needed was a draw so it wouldn't surprise me that they were comfortable settling for that at most. Did hear about another use of VAR against yet another non-European team though. So maybe you're right about Portugal. If they need help against their last 2 opponents then when they play another European team they may not do so well.

The last country to win outside of Europe when Europe was the host was Brazil in 1958.

If it was up to you what final would you love to see?

The only European team i would like to see win would be Portugal but i don’t wanna see Germany nor France win but it looks most likely that one of those teams will win it. I don’t wanna see Spain win it as well. I like Belgium.

Yeah, I read about that fact a few weeks ago. But that just makes me hope even more that perhaps its due to happen.

I just hope Mexico wins. I don't know who I'd rather see them play if they make it to the final.

VAR is the reason Portugal left with a draw .

They rewarded Iran with the soft PK

If that happens it would be crazy but they have to keep playing high level soccer. They need to win the group.

That was BS but i was dissapointed with how Portugal played in the second half. They need to hang on there. They could have been eliminated.

I’m rooting for Mexico as well. I was hoping Argentine would play better because I’m a Messi fan, but counterintuitive as it is I couldn’t help but root for Mexico against Germany. And I would love to see them put it together and win the tournament.

The review ate up half of the 6 minutes of stoppage time. Awfully convenient for Portugal. I saw the replay. They were dragging their feet for Portugal's sake. One PK was a very small price for Portugal to pay, they were advancing to the round of 16 with or without it. Might as well buy time

Lest we forget they also needed VAR help against Morocco. Portugal without VAR would have struggled against both Morocco and Iran. That could actually be worrying for them if they happen to face another favourite European team.

When did VAR help Portugal vs Morocco?

France and Denmark play out the tournament's first goal-less draw. Thirty seven games in is not bad and a record that likely won't be beaten for some time.

Tonight's games should be interesting.

A wild Messi appears......what a goal that is.

These games have been boring. Looks like argentina will get lucky and get through.

still trying to figure out what a rasper is.

Well, since VAR wasn't used in the match, it wasn't the use of it but rather the lack of use. But then again, that plays into the refs letting everything Portugal does wrong slide while calling Morocco for more than everything they do wrong. I wonder what will happen when Portugal play another favourite European team and don't have the refs on their side anymore.... Pfft, good luck ¯\_(?)_/¯

Missed all the matches again today, but once again, didn't miss a thing. All the European teams and Messi advanced. What else is new?

I wonder what the odds are VAR is used against Mexico if its a close match with Sweden. FIFA trying to corral as many of them as they can... Still go Mexico, if they have a shot against FIFA.

Quite a situation brewing with Mexico’s collapse vs. Sweden.

So is Germany out?

Wow all Germany had to do was score 1 goal in the last ten minutes and instead they collapsed and Mexico luckily advances

HAHAHAHAH

get ****ed Germany.

Fun Fact: Brazil is the only WC champion to advance to the 2nd stage in the following WC, after winning it all, in last 24 years
