Which players (that's multiple) should we have not signed/re-signed to keep Chandler "Playoffs" Jones?
Miguel can answer this best but that's a tough one. It's so hard these days to find a 10+ sack guy so trading him was a tough blow. It's even more annoying watching him lead the league in sacks when his team was losing most of the time. How the heck does that happen? Was he just having more fun?

So, what you're saying is that Bill Belichick the GM....

Their "problem" is that they spread the love on offense.

Dion Lewis and Rex Burkehead both would have been top 100 IF they were featured all year, but they (along with James White) took reps away from each other and took themselves out of the running.

Same with our wideouts, Cooks/Hogan/Amendola all were good but wouldn't warrant top 100.

As others noted, the defense had enough bad games on national TV to give a bad taste to any voters. But yes, if anyone perhaps McCourty should have been up there.

I'm not going to sweat it.
Dion Lewis wasnt on there? He was easily a top RB last year.

Garoppolo has played 6.5 games in his career and is already the 90th ranked player in the entire NFL. The hype train is totally off the tracks.
Its absurd.

For the sake of his career, I hope he lives up to the hype.

For true absurdity, try imagining a similar situation in another sport. A guy plays 10 games in the NBA at the end of the season after his team has been eliminated from the playoffs, averages 20 points per game, and gets a max deal in the offseason and is immediately deemed a top-10 player in the NBA. Football is obviously a special beast, as 4 games is still a quarter of the season and quarterbacks are so important, but it's still crazy.

...or in the MLB a September call-up rips the cover off the ball in 100 at-bats.

Back in 1992 I thought Phil Plantier was the second-coming of Yaz

In all honesty the only 2 Patriots who deserved to make the top 100 last year were Brady and Gronk.

McCourty, Gilmore, Cooks, Lewis and Flowers all had good years but none of them looked like a top 100 player over the course of the season when looking at the full body of work IMO

Lewis just didn't have enough snaps. Gilmore's bad start hurt him too much too put him in the top 100. Cooks seems like more of a stats guy than an impact guy. McCourty took a fair amount of bad angles that year that he usually doesn't and failed to have many impact plays. Flowers had a solid year but honestly when I think of all the other DL men I would put ahead of him I don't see how he makes the top 100.

IF you made a top 150 list I think a number of those guys would make it though. Maybe all of them.

But Considering the average of about 3 guys per team the Patriots only have 2 isn't that much outside the statistical norm.

I agree with this post.

McCourty is perennially underrated, so the overall defense has to be great for him to get consideration. For whatever reason, he doesn’t get the same type of respect and is not known as a playmaker as other excellent free safeties, even though I’ve posted that his “play making”stats are at least as good as Earl Thomas since they both entered the league. He should be a top 100 player but not surprised at all he wasn’t voted on.

Lewis must have been close...definitely a top 150 player even though his role was more limited early in the season.

I’m surprised Cooks didn’t make the list, even though he shouldn’t have. He is overhyped because of his constant highlight reel presence. It’s possible - though unlikely - that he is so overhyped he’ll end up in the top 30.

Of the 70 best players listed so far, not a single Patriot:

IIRC, last year JE, High and McCourty were somewhere in the mix. I can see why JE and High missed out this year.

Brady and Gronk will be top 10 I'm guessing, with Brady a likely #1. In your opinion, should any other Patriots make the list?

I don't know the methodology of the list, so it's certainly opinion/subjective/popularity. Intuitively, I would think one of the best teams in the league would have some top players. But that's not BB's game by reputation.
I could not care less about lists like this. As far as I'm concerned it's all about TEAM.

.

Also think McCourty flies under the radar for the Pats, his steady, consistent play is not as flashy as others and does not get as much recognition.. would prefer his steady, consistent play with the on the field leadership than a "newsworthy" guy...

OTOH the Eagles had 4 players in the top 100... 2, 3 or 4 what difference does it make??

Hmm

We have 2 top players on offense. Are you saying that the team wouldn't be different with 2 more top 100 defensive players on the team? Are you saying that having 2 top 100 players in the defensive front would make no difference?

Gilmore Hightower McCourty and flowers are top 100 candidates.
Let’s not take this voting too seriously. Tom Tebow was voted 100 as a jete.
