Watching Cassius Marsh play defense was painful. He "played" (if that is what you want to call it) a position of need and still was sent packing...

Not surprised that a player who unloads on critical fans would unload on his former employers.

Unfortunately, the tape don't lie. He got exposed for being an one-dimensional player who couldn't set an edge to save his life. Yes, BB was forced to ask him to do what he wasn't good at, but it wasn't if they had any other choice. Just a case of misfortune where nobody is really at fault here but he just made it a lot worse on himself by dragging everything back under the spotlight.

I can’t believe he just glosses over this. Translation: the team asked me to develop into a more versatile, well-rounded defender for the sake of the overall group. How am I supposed to pad my stats doing this!?!?

And knowing the way BB, the GM, operates. He would have told Marsh what he expected of him and if he (Marsh) was willing to do this. Seems odd for sure that he felt blindsided by the expectation. Comes off sounding like a bandwagoner and jumping on the Pats while there are so many reports coming out about inner conflict.

He's like Adalius Thomas, without the athletic talent.

Not everyone's like you. Like I said, there's lot of people in this world that will take less pay and less prestige to work in a company that has a culture where people enjoy themselves over a cutthroat high risk/high reward corporate environment. Go check out and see how many people end up bailing on the top 5 financial firms (KPMG/Deloitte/PwC etc) because they can't stand the environment despite knowing if they make it there they are set for life.

There's lots of players in this league that just wouldn't fit in on the Patriots because they operate like a no nonsense business. And there's lots of teams that are willing to provide a different culture for players like that.

No argument with you on anything you say. I have a problem with Marsh looking to Belichick and the coaches to meet some need of his to have "fun." If that's what he needs from his football coach, he should have signed on with Rex Ryan or Jerry Glanville.

Marsh complains about "BS" on the Pats being things like filling lots of roles as a front seven defender. He wanted to rush the passer, nothing more. He didn't want to learn and work hard to be a better defender in pass coverage situations, filling gaps, etc. That was not "BS,"
that was his job. That's what he was paid to do. Somehow Marsh thought he was supposed to get paid to only do things he considered fun. He and his agent made a huge mistake signing with the Patriots.

You wrote in another post about how hard Revis said he had to work. He was a polished CB coming - maybe the best in the league - but had never been pushed to do what it takes to win it all. He did it, won, and left for a lot more money in a losing situation. That's okay.

So many people here take reasonable assertions or actions by players as personal insults. Lighten up. It's just a game you watch on TV on Sundays, same stakes for you as an episode of The Bachelor. Whether the Patriots are a good work environment doesn't make an iota of difference to you watching the games. And the billion dollar franchise cares even less about you than it does about the players.

Well, then, it was the Patriots' mistake. The Seahawks got a good deal with two picks in the 2018 draft in exchange.

I stand corrected on finding fault with Marsh and his agent.

There's no reason to be upset with this guy. He was/is very clear about how he has chosen to make a living: rushing the passer. He doesn't set the edge, he doesn't pass defend. Nor did he have an option to come to the Pats, because he didn't have an opportunity to pick his employer, they picked him. If he wanted to play NFL football, he had to come. Then they asked him to do something he doesn't feel competent at and, surprise, wasn't very good at it.

This entire situation would be different for me if he'd been a free agent and chosen the Pats as his employer.

There's plenty of people that went up to their boss and said they were putting in their notice because they didn't like the culture fit in the company and were miserable and not enjoying themselves, so yeah in that sense. In the NFL you can't do that because teams own your rights. So realistically the only thing Marsh could have done was voice his concerns to his boss. I think if players were at will employees you'd see alot more mobility from squad to squad and players leaving different teams because they didn't like the fit. There'd be players who can't handle the Patriots bailing, and there likewise would be absolute workhorses obsessed with winning that would run to the Patriots.
