Still have a hard time believing this, having a discussion of possible options and actually doing something are two completely different things...

What it does indicate is how highly regarded Mayfield was..

He was claiming we wouldn't move up two spots even for a super star, which I refuted.

Missed the fact that you replied to someone I had on ignore. Sorry about that..

?? I don't even recognize your name what could I possibly have said to trigger you? Did I call our defense bad or something? Question a fourth down play call?

Confirms what Ian wrote in his article. Sheds some new light on NE QB search . esp. about Pats QB prototypes. Its a 2-year window remaining most likely Id guess so it will be interesting to see how they go forward..

“We had another team which is going to surprise you. Another team had said, ‘You may get a big surprise on draft day, at No. 2, if he’s available.’ And it was the Patriots,” Mills said. “They had 23 and they had 31 and they had two seconds. We thought, ‘That’s gonna be a heck of a move, to get up that high from where they are.’ And of course he wasn’t available so we never knew if that was reality or not.”

I don't believe the Pats were seriously looking to go up that high. This is the agent puffing his player.

I believe Mayfield was the decoy, the target was Barkley. How else do you play the Giants to trade the pick.

Belichick : what can I do to get you to stay
Daniels :How about getting me the once in a lifetime RB, or my next best RB

If ESPN reported that my house was on fire I would ignore it.

Don’t get me wrong because Russell Wilson is a very good QB, but imo he is Mayfield’s ceiling, and I wouldn’t trade what it would have taken to go up to take a guy with that ceiling. I don’t believe there was a true franchise QB in this draft, and Patriot fans should be really happy that Brady is back in “play to 45” mode, as they need at least three seasons to find and get his successor ready. And this draft, at least to me, demonstrated that Belichick is looking more at protecting Brady and extending his career than he was investing in any of the available QB’s as Brady’s successor. Who it will be and when they will acquire them is anyone’s guess, could be on a pro roster right now, or it could be picked in the coming years, we will see?

if Mayfield's ceiling is even an avg Russell Wilson, that's a win for the browns IMO. While not the prototypical pocket passer, Russell is a baller. He was basically the Seahawks entire offense behind one of the worst lines (injuries++) in the NFL.
