Technique is fine. But if you don't have the strength to take on the run, all the technique in the world isn't going to help you in that regard. When he came out in the draft, the knock on him was that he was really an oversized safety that converted to Sam and his lean frame would prevent him from being a force against the run. To date, he hasn't done anything to erase that concern. He'd have to bulk up considerably in order to be the force against the run that Hightower and even KVN are. Short of that, I see no problem with looking at him as exactly what he is - a situational linebacker that can come in and be effective in obvious passing situations. That's why the defense is in trouble if he has to play a significant portion of snaps. He gets easily engulfed by blockers. Expecting that to change is setting yourself up for disappointment.

The bolded spells out why the defense is in trouble if he's getting starter snaps.

I'm not "expecting" anything, one way or the other. I have no emotional investment in any outcome, so there's no way for me to be "disappointed".

TE Ian Thomas would be nice. I'd like to see some defense first though. He'd have to last until the 5th.
Well there goes that.

Little surprised to read this from you, BGC. I respectfully disagree on the idea that Brady will play 3-4 more years--actually, check that--I respectfully disagree that the team will be basing its moves on that idea and putting all of its eggs in one basket. It was just a week ago where Brady's agent had to come out and confirm that he'd be back for 2018, so I'm going to hope for two more years, and see where we're at then.

A lot can happen in the meantime, though. He could win the SB this year, or God forbid the unthinkable happens. Even a somewhat "normal" or nagging injury that lasts throughout the year on some level could make him pause before committing to next season. I think the team will attempt to prepare themselves. At this point in time, all they've really done (realistically speaking) was pass up on Lamar Jackson and Mason Rudolph. We know that they've been focusing heavily on the "second tier" kind of guys like Lauletta, White, and Falk, and I'm fully expecting them to address that later on this afternoon. I don't see any reason why one of them couldn't be groomed and take over after sitting two years at the age of 24, or even three years at 25. Actually, Garoppolo almost sat for the entire length of his 4 year rookie contract until the final handful of games.
You're not drafting a 23-24 yo to sit for 3-4 years. Have no idea how he is during live action and then handing the keys over to him. It just doesn't work that way. See the Cowboys and Weeden. If we draft a QB today its back up at best, no franchise QB.

Kyle Lauletta GONE.

Alabama center Bozeman. All he did in the NFL farm system also known as the SEC was block everything in front of him in the run game, and his wide, strong frame lead to him being a brick wall in pass-protection. He has "late-round steal" written all over him.

Well, it looks like you’re right on the QB front, but where we disagree is the number of years that Brady will continue playing.

Even if he plays 3 more years, any QB selected could’ve played a full season (year 4) before they needed to make a decision on him. Isn’t that what basically happened with Garoppolo, in an even more extreme situation? He almost sat the entire 4 years. I’m only suggesting a new QB sitting for 3.

At any rate, it looks like you’re correct that no QB will be taken, so good call.
