Just spitballing the hypothetical here but would anyone do this trade if they get a couple of players back.

Imagine if Brady has quietly told the FO that he’s not playing beyond his contract and the Pats have Darnold as their clear no1 QB.

Pats trade the above for CLE’s no 1. Get Darnold, Josh Gordon (don’t normally buy into the Josh Gordon thing but...) and Christian Kirksey. Maybe throw in Boddy-Calhoun too.

Note: I haven’t looked into their contract situations.

I'm higher on Darnold instead of Rosen.

Besides the injury and personality issues, Rosen has shown stagnation, like Lauletta, and hasn't had a visible 'jump' in production or UCLA's overall record while playing.

Never underestimate the Jete. If Cleveland takes him at #1 overall, there will probably still be a representative from that franchise sending in a card with Baker Mayfield's name on it at #3.

My 2-cents: Moving down from #31 does take away one 5yr contract - but if its for a player that NE probably have only grade 2 (potential starter) its not such a big deal and instead you're getting another prospect or draft capital to play with.

Maybe BB prefers to trade up with #31 (keeps both 2nds) for just a swap of picks depending on how high he goes.

(OT, LB, QB) I’ve heard it both ways on their interest in Miller at either 23 or 31, and Evans and Vander Esch are absolutely players to watch. Also, moving to 4 also makes sense.

We talk about the failures with top drafted quarterbacks. I believe that a lot of the failures have to do with coaching or the lack of personnel on the team.

The players available may or may not be able to immediately take a team on their back (probably not). HOWEVER, IMHO 3 of the top 4 may be capable of being franchise quarterbacks for the patriots, and a starter in 2019 or when needed.

So, the questions are
1) How confident is Belichick in making a franchise QB out of the 2nd and 3rd rounders?
2) What is the difference is confidence between a top 4 QB, the 2nd tier, and the 3rd tier quarterbacks,
3) How much is settling the QB issue worth. IMHO, it is CERTAINLY worth 2 of the top 3 2018 picks. That being said, Belichick may be willing to part with a 3rd pick.

BOTTOM LINE
I understand the position of those who say that we will get 4 quality starters and the QB can come for the 3rd, 4th or next year, or the year after. For me, I stopped that kind of analysis before college (over 50 years ago).
