2018 mocks

Just worth bearing in mind re Kolton Miller vs Antonio Garcia.

It’s only one grading certainly but at least according to Lance Zierlein, their tags are virtually touching. He gives Kolton Miller a 5.80 grade and Antonio Garcia a 5.75 grade. Miller’s stock is being inflated this year. I’ve seen a number of grading that have him graded as more of a 3rd rounder. If you want to talk McGlinchey, Williams or Wynn as first round OT prospects then I can see an argument of preferring them over Garcia. If the alternative to Garcia is Miller or O’Neill however, I’m less convinced.

I'm with you in terms of their current readiness to start. Even recovering from illness, I believe Garcia would likely do a more credible job for this year. The attraction of Miller is that he's an absolutely elite athlete. Coaches may assume that a year or two of seasoning under their coaching staff and pro strength and conditioning will allow him to become one of the best tackles in the game. Miller flashes moments of everything you want to see on tape. He's inconsistent with his technique, absolutely, but that doesn't mean he's incapable -- he just needs more development. If he were a year further along, he would be a top ten pick. I could see the team taking him at 31 based on what they project him to become, rather than what he is now, even if I strongly prefer a defensive draft.

The same applies to Brian O’Neill too. I have no issue with taking Miller at 31 or O’Neill in the 2nd or Isaiah Wynn. But in reply to the captain, I think Alexander is the much better player which is why I took him over Miller. Garcia might not have the elite testing numbers of Miller but he was a very light footed and nimble LT and he’s on the roster now. This, and next years draft, should be about resetting the roster for the next generation, not fixing a perceived hole in 2018 alone. That was the approach I took in my mock anyway.

Just rewatched Antonio Garcia against Clemson and remembered why I was such a fan last year. He’s so nimble and light-footed and nasty to boot. The number of times he wrestles the defender to the floor. Having Garcia (hopefully) and Rivers back this year is like having two additional quality draft picks.

Do you think Kolton Miller will be better? Or Brian O’Neill?
Yes. Matt Light was a rookie starter...and I believe that Vollmer started a few games at LT in place of an injured Light during his rookie 2009 season too.

The only gradez that matter are given by one cantankerous Marine Corps sergeant.

The same applies to Garcia though doesn’t it - he’s effectively a rookie too.

It does...but I believe that both Miller & O'Neill are better prospects than Garcia. Neither of them are without flaws of course, so we'll see.

My mock...I don't think they take an OT because Garcia is coming back and Croston could surprise this year.

#23 LB Rashaan Evans. Hitter, nose for the ball, pass rush. Beat the Steelers to him.

#31 OC/OG Billy Price. TOUGH. Thuney or Andrews takes a seat. Brady secretly yells “YAY!”

#43 RB Sony Michel. Tough with good hands and intangibles. Pro Bowl talent.

#63 DT Da’Shawn Hand. ‘Bama interior power player. Seymour didn’t have college sacks either

#95 QB Kurt Benkert. Has an NFL arm and Belichick to teach him the rest

#198 CB Duke Dawson. A physical and versatile football player.

#210 FS Armani Watts. NFL Body and athleticism.

#219 WR Justin Watson. Bigger faster combo of Hogan and Amendola.

1 Round Mock Draft with Trades

1. Browns- Josh Allen QB Wyoming

Word on the street is that the Browns will take Josh Allen with the first pick.

2. Giants- Saquan Barkley RB Penn State

The Giants still have Eli Manning and drafted Davis Webb last season. The Giants need a playmaker and Barkley is being compared to Zeke without the drama.

3. Jets- Baker Mayfield QB Oklahoma

(From the Colts)

This is a Jets move, there are plenty of better Quarterbacks, but they take the one with the worst attitude. They are hoping he will be Joe Namath 2.0 and to sell more tickets. Word is, the Jets love this kid.

4. Browns- Bradley Chubb Edge NC State

Browns get their QB and now they get one of the best edge rushers in the draft to pair with Garrett. If the Browns had a competent head coach, this team would be scary.

5. Bills- Sam Darnold QB USC

*TRADE* The Bills gave the Broncos #12, #53, #96, #187 to move up to get their franchise QB.

6. Colts- Quenton Nelson OG Notre Dame

(From the Jets)

The Colts finally got smart and drafted an offensive lineman to protect their caveman I mean QB.

7. Dolphins- Josh Rosen QB UCLA

*TRADE* The Dolphins gave the Buccaneers #11, #73, and 2019 4th Round pick.

Even though the Dolphins have other needs, Tannyhill is not the future and not reliable. They trade up to get their franchise QB.

8. Bears- Tremaine Edmunds OLB Virginia Tech

The Bears have many needs this draft, especially on defense. They take the best OLB in the draft.

9. 49ers- Marcus Davenport Edge UTSA

The 49ers were ranked 26th in sacks in 2017. They need to get to the QB! They need a WR to pair with Jimmy G, but they need to improve their defense.

10. Raiders- Roquan Smith ILB Georgia

Smith is the best ILB in this draft, Raiders have a lot of holes to fill on the defense. They could take a corner here if Smith doesn’t fall to them.

11. Buccaneers- Minkah Fitzpatrick S Alabama

(From Dolphins)

The Buccaneers have a lot of holes that needs to be filled, Safety is a need and Fitzpatrick is the best player available.

12. Broncos- Denzel Ward CB Ohio State

(From Bills)

After trading away Talib, the Broncos have a huge hole to fill. Denzel Ward is slated as the best CB in this draft.

13. Redskins- Vita Vea DT Washington

Redskins take a massive DT that can swallow up the offensive line, but he can also provide an interior pass rush.

14. Cowboys- Calvin Ridley WR Alabama

*TRADE* Cowboys traded #19, #81, #137, #236 to Packers. After the release of Dez Bryant, the Cowboys need to replace him. They need weapons for Dak and Ridley could be a decent #1 WR.

15. Cardinals- Lamar Jackson QB Louisville

Yes, the Cardinals signed Bradford to a contract, but he is not a longterm solution and he is made of glass. The Cardinals take Lamar Jackson who has the potential to be a starter in this league.

16. Ravens- Derwin James S Florida State

The Ravens really haven’t found a replacement for Reed, they have many other holes, but getting James at this position is a steal.

17. Chargers- Da’Ron Payne DT Alabama

The have great edge rushers, but they need an upgrade at DT.

18. Seahawks- Mike Hughes CB UCF

Seahawks released Sherman for cap reasons and that left a big hole at corner. They could also go Guard here.

19. Packers- Connor Williams OT Texas

(From Cowboys)

Packers need a RT and I think that Williams is better for RT than LT.

20. Lions- Harold Landry Edge Boston College

Paired with Ansah, their defensive line could be a force to be reckoned with.

21. Vikings- Mike McGlinchery OT Notre Dame

*TRADE* Vikings traded #30, #94, #167, 2019 4th Rounder. The Vikings needs to protect their investment in Cousins. What better way to do so by upgrading their offensive line?

22. Steelers- Leighton Vander Esch ILB Boise State

*TRADE* Steelers traded #28 and #92. The Steelers have been very high on this guy since the combine. They leap frog the Patriots to get their guy.

23. PATRIOTS- Rashaan Evans ILB Alabama

The Patriots haven’t had a true ILB since Jerod Mayo. Belichick Loves Saban’s players.

24. Panthers- Josh Jackson CB Iowa

The Panthers secondary is in need of an upgrade, especially since they don’t have a true #1 CB and signing Breeland fell through after a failed physical.

25. Titans- Courtland Sutton WR SMU

The Titans need more weapons for Mariota.

26. Falcons- Taven Bryan DT Florida

The Falcons need more pass rush on the interior of their defensive line.

27. Saints- Maurice Hurst DT Michigan

Maurice Hurst can stop the run and provide an interior pass rush. The Saints love Lamar Jackson, but he is off the board.

28. Bills- Isaiah Wynn OG Georgia

(From Steelers)

The Bills have huge holes on their offensive line after trading Gordy Glenn and losing Incognito to retirement. They need to protect their new QB.

29. Jaguars- DJ Moore WR Maryland

The Jaguars need more weapons for Bortles after losing Allen Robinson.

30. Bengals- James Daniels C Iowa

(From Vikings)

The Bengals need to upgrade their offensive line, and they have been linked to Daniels this offseason.

31. Buccaneers- Derrius Guice RB LSU

*TRADE* Buccaneers traded #38 and #102 to Patriots. After releasing Doug Martin, the Bucs need a feature back.

32. Eagles- Kolton Miller OT UCLA

Jason Peters is always hurt, Eagles need to protect Wentz.

#31 OC/OG Billy Price. TOUGH. Thuney or Andrews takes a seat. Brady secretly yells “YAY!”

The Pats use a premium pick to draft someone at a position that's relatively strong, and depend on question marks to fill a bigger vacancy? That just seems unlikely.

No pick between 102 and 198 would drive me crazy. Decent mock though. Andrews and Rudolph don’t excite me but I like your other high picks.

This years draft will be about how many QB's go in the first 10 picks. The more QBs taken the better off we will be. I'm starting to come around to taking someone as a late flyer and groom them.

I'd like to build a defence that we had when Brady was here for the first few years then take it from there. Another thing to mention is the amount of QB's that are coming in the next 2/3 years as well

The Pats use a premium pick to draft someone at a position that's relatively strong, and depend on question marks to fill a bigger vacancy? That just seems unlikely.

You must think Thuney and Andrews are top players but I don't because I've seen too much of this...nice block Joe.

Andrews and Thuney have improved every game since they've been here.

Arguably one of Thuney worst games for the Pats, the one thing about Thuney is he was a Tackle at college if i remember correctly. ( Feel free to correct me)

Our O-Line is actually fairly solid in my opinion, i don't think its a huge need this year, next year i can see it being, depending what happens with Mason.

You must think Thuney and Andrews are top players but I don't because I've seen too much of this...nice block Joe.

Don't be like that. Cherry-picking one bad rep is poor form. You can literally find any OL who has a bad outing. Even Joe Thomas gave up 30+ sacks in his career. Thuney is a very good starter who paved the way in the run game and did well against most pass rushers. His technique is extremely sound, if you know what to look for.

If you don't believe me, try watching more clips of his good reps:

Why Joe Thuney NFL’s most underrated offensive lineman

Our OL dominated Philly. Just need a LT. Maybe. Cannon or Garcia

There was that 1 play and that was it.. still haven’t been able to bring myself to watch the highlights or anything
