Malcolm Butler Mega Thread

Butler was on the starting player list the Patriots gave to the broadcaster (NBC, as I recall). That tends to undercut SBB's claim, as we would expect BB to have made such a key decision that close to game time, when he'd had time prior. That doesn't mean that SBB is wrong, but I think it does tend to make his claim seem less likely.

And, even if it's true, that doesn't justify keeping him out all game, IMO. You don't punish the team over a player who'll be gone after that game.
As well as Rowe’s initial comments that he didn’t know he was starting until right before the game.

It is and it isn't. Being drunk and baked on a Tuesday is not a legit reason to be held out of a Sunday game. He was limited Wed and a full participant on Thurs.

Unless Bill decided to practice him so not to create a circus but fully intending to put him on ice Sunday?
If he missed or blew off practice to get wasted i see that as a reason on a BB team to be held out, i think i read around the time of the super bowl butler had a history of this behavior, and had gottten caught before. But if this is true maybe benching him the whole game is over the top, the first quater or half would have been enough.

Yeah....

They don't mean that it can't possibly true, but that would be BB being awfully wishy-washy prior to the game, and then stubbornly foolish during the game, which doesn't really seem to be the general BB pattern. I think most of us would expect that to go the other way.

Especially as your defense is in the process of getting completely tuned the **** up.

If being drunk and baked prevented him from practicing he should be benched.

What I meant to say was if MB was drunk and baked at night and didn't miss practice for that, I don't think that should bench him.

I'm not sure this is true anyway. I would think TN would know the truth before shelling out $60m for him

I actually hope you’re right. It would be a much better explanation than trotting out that ****bag defense that they did over a football decision or over the flu. But you’re an anonymous name on an internet message board that’s repeating information that he supposedly heard third hand. You’ll forgive me if I’d like further confirmation on it. That sort of willingness to just accept what one is seeing online without further research and/or confirmation is the reason why foreign entities are so eager to infiltrate social media.
That's fair enough. I get why you guys would criticize me. I'm giving you nameless info. But laughing at him for believing me is not needed.

I believe the info so the only question left in my mind is why did he dress him if he wasn't going to play him. I can't reconcile this point.

As to your last point if you said you don't want to hurt the team everytime you had to punish someone then how do you ever punish someone? And I also don't see how it being his last game matters either you can't send that message either if you're here even if just for one game you should still be held accountable.

Taking your info as a given (and, personally, I think what you said is literally the only thing that comes close to making any sense of the whole situation), my best attempt at reconciling that point is this (and I admit it's weak):

With all the other injuries, if BB hadn't dressed Butler, if more than one DB got injured (especially if a corner) then NE would have been unable to field a defensive position without playing someone massively out of position. So perhaps a disaster of that magnitude crossed BB's personal "don't cancel the whole family vacation to punish one kid" line, and so he had Butler dress.

I agree this is the most logical point. But then you can still ask if you were willing to play him in case of injury then why not play him in case of putrid play?

I also think there might have been some foolish thinking that he could avoid it being an issue if he just dressed him and denied any punishment. Instead I think it made it worse (for him at least). Maybe that was kind what he was going for kind of like batman taking it on himself at the end of Dark Knight.

As I said I can't really make sense of that part.

A possible valid discussion I have not seen (perhaps it exists) is would dressing Branch or Harris have been more beneficial than a dressed but not playing Butler.

Agreed it could have just been out of lack of anyone else he needed it were useful.

I’m not laughing at Andy, per se. I’m laughing at the logic he’s employing.

You don't know him from a hole in the wall. But he says something you like hearing so you see no reason for him to lie. I'm sure you wouldn't have been skeptical either if he had said this person just told him that Belichick made Butler a healthy scratch.

The logic is hilarious.
He has posted here for years. He is not a wild story teller. I went no reason he would lie regardless of what he says.
You really have a warped view of people and human interaction. Everyone isn’t out to lie and do anything dishonest they can think of to make a point on a message board they done even believe in. It must be tough to have to go through life so paranoid.

The logic is why would the guy lie that he knows someone close to the team that told him something and he believes him. What reason is there to do that?
Your logic is the scary one.

Skipping practice for the super bowl to get drunk and baked is as bad as it gets imo.

So give us your more reliable information and/or show why he is lying.

I meant the night before.

If he got hammered and skipped practice that is awful

oh well no big deal anyway.
Dude, thanks for posting what you have heard, don’t let the Deus irae fan club get to you.
I get that you are not making **** up because your life revolves around winning a message board argument.

The story was they went to check on him after he missed practice suooosedly sick and he was wasted. If that were the case no way I play him if I’m the coach.
