2018 mocks

Bill should ensure that he can choose either Kolton Miller or Brian O'Neill,
because LT has now officially become Draft Priority #1.

In case you guys didn't already know, draft simulations are extremely unrealistic. I kept trading down a few picks at a time in order to add mid and late round picks, and ended up with this hilarious hodgepodge of names. This is the most unrealistic simulation I think I've ever done. Oh, and I still couldn't get a better score than A- on this thing. I think they do that on purpose, to keep people playing so that they can show them more ads (if they don't have adblock). Check out this totally ridiculous and not even remotely plausible haul:

Your score is: 23288 (GRADE: A-)

Not a bad idea for a team with a new regime FWIW

Live draft with no trades on FootballsFuture. Probably only doing 5 rounds.

1.31 - Kolton Miller OT UCLA
2.43 - Sam Hubbard DE Ohio State
2.63 - Ronald Jones II RB USC
3.95 - Genard Avery LB Memphis
4.136 - Quenton Meeks S Stanford
You knew Solder was gone yesterday? Haha, good draft, addresses quite a bit

Funny because I was going to say exactly the same.

Good company

Seriously, though, it's hilarious doing these simulations. They're fun, and I enjoy the game, but they aren't even remotely in the realm of reality.

They aren’t which is why I don’t get so much fun out of them but that’s just a personal thing. Actually doing a real draft is the best thing but even there, that’s not really workable because it’s tough to organise, especially on a small board like ours.

Yes, I've been part of a few in the past, and it's a blast. What I do enjoy about these various simulations is that it can be helpful as a tool for me. If I ever feel a twinge of regret at passing up on a player, then it makes me think that I like the player more than my grading has accounted for; so I go back to the film to see if I should move a guy up based on that reaction, or if I'm just emotionally invested, and need to stick to my guns. It's also useful in terms of evaluating position grading vs overall grading, looking at opportunity cost, etc. So I enjoy that part of the process.

Youre a awesome passionate guy. You really should try to get some kind of job working as a sub scout for the team.

Thanks! While I would love the work, I'm afraid the hours and travel would be tough for my family. I'm also not sure I'm qualified! For now it's just a fun hobby, and I hope it's helpful to someone. I sure enjoy the change of pace from my real job.

and on the menu today!

How’s this?

31: R1P31
LB LEIGHTON VANDER ESCH
BOISE STATE

43: R2P11
OT KOLTON MILLER
UCLA

63: R2P31
EDGE LORENZO CARTER

95: R3P31

CB KEVIN TOLIVER II
LSU

159: R5P22

I hope you’re right that Miller is there at 43. I have my doubts though.

Mock 2.0

31 - Connor Williams, OT, Texas

It’s maybe wishful thinking that he’s available at 31. I’ve seen some mocks where he’s available at 31 and some where he’s taken in the 15-20s. So who knows, but I think he has the makings of a plug and play OT who, if the worse comes to the worst could be a top quality LG. But I think he can give us quality snaps at LT this year.

43 - Alonzo Carter, LB, Georgia

This defense needs some athleticism in the front 6/7 and Carter has that in spades. B.B. hasn’t shied away from elite athletes in the past (see Collins, Jamie) and I see Carter in a similar light.

63 - Kyle Lauletta, QB, Richmond

Doesn’t need much explanation. As things stand OT, LB and developmental QB are the top three needs as far as I’m confirmed (I can see the arguments against QB though).

95 - Isaac Yiadom, CB, Boston College

I have CB as the fourth need but could accept switching it with developmental QB. Yiadom can play press and is a good tackler, a must for a Patriots DB. I don’t know if he’ll have the Patriots’ preferred athleticism but he’s a special teams cover specialist, no small thing when picking at this point in the draft. Nice length too at 6’ with 32” arms.

136 - Jeremy Reaves, S, South Alabama

Gutted that I couldn’t have Justin Reid in this mock but whilst Reaves isn’t necessarily the same guy, he does offer a similar versatility to Reid in the defensive backfield. He’s played CB and safety and could, in theory, be backup at every position at CB and safety. And he hits like a freight train. A definite binky of mine.

Rnd 6 (from Raiders) - Genard Avery, LB, Memphis

He’s very athletic for a 250lb linebacker. He’s not a finished product by any means - he has some play anticipation issues), but his size/athleticism combo is a heady mix. Another binky.

219 - Joe Ostman, DE/OLB, CMU

Undersized at 6’2” and 250 But has average to good athleticism (34.” Vert, 7.09 3-cone). But he has been very productive based largely on effort and hand usage. Nink isn’t a bad comp.

What I would love to see BB do on draft day, is to take an OT in the first,
A pass rusher with our early second, like a Harold Landry or similar, since I think all these QB's being taken early is going to push some pass rushing talent into the early second that just normally isnt there.
Then go after two athletic LB's with our late 2nd, and 3rd. (malik jackson and Carter)

Then trade next years 2nd and a late round pick to a team for a mid - late third rounder to take Kyle Lauletta where we might have normally taken him with our 3rd.

Get John Lynch on the phone and tell him well give him our 2019 2nd and something like a 2020 5th or 2019 6th for this years pick 74. You still owe us something for jimmy you ******* lol

So long as one is still on the board a first round OT seems to be an inevitably unless one of Fleming or Waddle come back.

I think if all goes well in the '18 draft for NE and pick up an athletic LB, explosive pass rusher, as well as LT/TE in the top 100 and a Day 3 RB then the developmental QB and CB will be a priority next year

How's:
1.31. Rashaan Evans, LB, 'Bama (starting LB, can step in for 54, even line up outside...imagine HT, Evans, KVN as the top 3 LBers)
2.43. Sam Hubbard, DE, Ohio State (explosive pass rusher, Chandler Jones-like, high upside, gives a DE group of Flowers, Hubbard, Clayborn, Wise, Butler, Lee)
2.63. Martinas Rankin, LT, Mississippi State (Little short, but a polished strictly LT prospect like Garcia, can compete with each other to start)
3.95. Mark Andrews, TE, Oklahoma (Offense lacks a TE2 and Gronk won't play forever, blocking needs work but at least he does it, Jason Witten-like)
4.136. Shaq Griffin, LB, UCF (Overshadowed by his awesome story is his versatility at all three levels of D and insane motor, his ceiling is an ace STer)
7.219. WR Braxton Berrios, WR, Miami (Amendola clone, literally, watch the tape, great hands, athleticism, and route running)
* I do expect trades to either move up or move down (If Evans is gone at 31, look for BB to trade down for another 2, 3, 4, and 7 similar to 2013)

Sound?

Allows the focus to go to QB, CB, and maybe S and RB in '19

I love Evans game, but realistically, how does he make it past Pittsburgh?

I love vea’s gsme, but realistically, how does he make it past Miami?

Someone good is going to drop to us at 31 because so many qb’s will go in the first round, but realistically, how does bb not trade #31?

I really like this mock from Doug Kyed

31 - Kolton Miller
43 - Lorenzo Carter
63 - Kyle Lauletta
95 - Quenton Meeks
163 - Dalton Schultz (player comp at nfl.com is Dwayne Allen)
210 - Leon Jacobs (248lb linebacker who ran 4.48)
219 - John Franklin-Myers (5-tech)

High upside in Miller and Carter albeit with a low-ish floor but Lauletta, Meeks and Schultz are good solid mid-round picks.
