Thanks for this thread.

We should find out whether Bennett and/or Branch enter into the comp equation. Is suspect that in the end it will make little difference (a late 7th perhaps).

Perhaps Miguel will tell us.

Because of when and how he was acquired Bennett will not. Branch may since his option was not picked up but it is unlikely if he signs elsewhere and doesn't retire that his contract value will be one of the top 32.

I am not sure how to react to all of this, I was so happy last year with our aggressiveness and the eventual returns was so disappointing in terms of what the players we signed produced.
I am ok so far with staying put until I am not...Let me get the panic button ready.

They are still going > or = 12-4.

Still a crapload of talent on this team and great coaching.

Once BB soothes some disgruntled employees they'll be ready to go.

This is incorrect. Bennet will not count because he was CUT. It has nothing to do with how he was acquired.

You could make the argument that it's both but because Bennett returned to NE before week 10 he technically was 're-signed' by them therefore he wouldn't have been elligible even if he had played out his contract and signed elsewhere rather than being cut. The same logic allowed GB to get a compensatory 2018 pick because he did not count against their 2017 signings.

I see the problem. You're confusing your when comp pick cancellation rules. Bennett being re-acquired has nothing to do with the 2019 Comp Picks. The 2018 Comp picks have already been awarded so they are a non-factor. The only reason that Bennett is not eligible for a 2019 Comp pick is because he was cut.

Updated with the pats bringing back Burkhead.

I heard a very detailed and convoluted conversation regarding this at one point on Comcast between Breer and someone else who I can't recall. It is entirely possible either they were incorrect, I am confused or (more likely) both.

Updated with the addition of Jason McCourty and with Bademosi signing with the Texans.

Updated with the Signings of Adrian Clayborn, Jeremy Hill and Matt Tobin..
