Browns trade Shelton to Patriots

So the Patriots get Shelton and a 5th this year for a 3rd in 2019? That’s a steal. The interior of their DL is set, and they are strong in the middle at LB and Safety, that leaves edge LB/DE’s, and a CB.

Love this move.

No, he's not just as good. But he is, indeed, cheaper.

Gabriel had 33 catches for 378 yards last year...in a very good offense with a good QB. World-beater, I tell ya.

The offense had a new coordinator he looked good with Shanny.
I'm just saying if I could trade Cooks for a second and sign Gabriel I'd consider it.
He's a little older but a ton cheaper and then you have the pick to boot.

Even trading Cooks leaves the Pats with Hogan, Edelman, Mitchell, Britt and Dorsett - and I hope Amendola comes back. Even mediocre receivers are pretty expensive on the market.

Pats need LBs, an LT, another RB, a #2 corner...so while I get your point, I dooubt I'd be spending money on WR at this point.

Gabriel is okay, but honestly, he reminds me of Dorsett...every now and then, he'll break a CB's ankle and make a highlight film.

EDIT: And I really don't see them trading Cooks.

Follow up on when the 5th-year options for Shelton and Brown are "around $7M" ...

Ted Washington was 6’5 375
I forgot about him, i don't know why its pretty hard to forget someone that big. FWitsW keith Traylor was 6'2 340. I don't know if that was his weight at the end of his career or the begining.

Wow, this is a really good deal. Nice replacement for Branch. Pats are set inside now. now time to focus on edge rushers, and some speed at LB in FA/Draft.

This move helps the Pat's current edge rushers. Focus on the LB imo.

Damn I'm pumped right now.

Amazing trade, the Browns have lost their minds.

To be fair to the Browns they've just signed 17 CB's and needed room on the roster. :D

Fair enough. We were far from perfect in that department last year, so I can’t complain with attempting to boost that.

We will still need to do more up front though, it’s not quite a cure all.

I disagree. The front is set now. Focus on the LB's. The front has two rotational big bodies in VV and Shelton + Brown, Guy and Butler as DL's. That's solid as hell.

Hightower, T. Flowers as LB/DE's.. + Rivers??

That's looking pretty damn good to me.

Shelton is a good player...clogs the middle he is very strong against the run. but we still have a long way to go. Shelton is slow and big...

We need more speed on this defense than ever before....Speed....and pass rush...

Shelton has neither of those things

I hope we find a fast pass rusher this offseason

It's hard to have a pass rush when your NT is shoved out of position or knocked on his ass half the time leaving the LB's to clean up the mess. This frees up the pass rush. This unleashes the DE's. VV and Shelton in rotation are exactly what the doctor ordered.

I agree with getting a speedy LB. But damn this move has solidified the LOS and improved the pass rush.
