Sherman on the Way Out?

Wise and Rivers coming back should help. So will Hightower. But at this point, I don't have much trust in his ability to stay on the field. Not really counting on him. Hopefully he surprises me.

That's why drafting a LB this season's big. Can't depend on high being healthy. Need speed there.

After watching what a scrub did to this defense in the SuperBowl. They are a lot further away than a few players from being a dominant defense. Let's just focus on getting respectable. Being able to stand up to a CBA scrub like Foles.
I think we need players added on all three lines of the defense. I agree with you that it was overrated and even pathetic at times, but I don’t think they’re that far from being dominant again. Let’s remember that even with their weaknesses, they finished 5th in points allowed. That said, let’s look at the guys they’re getting back on defense:

Valentine
Hightower
Rivers (first pick last year)
McClellan
J Jones
C Jones
Ebner (ST)

Now, let’s assume that we’ll still need additional depth and talent at all 3 lines even after these guys return. Those 3 players can be added very easily via the draft and free agency. It’s certainly not a bleak picture by any means.

Also, Nick Foles wasn’t really the bad QB that you’re suggesting. He had a previous season with a 27-2 TD to INT ratio, leading the league in QB rating and yards per attempt. More importantly, he was a fine fit for what their offense asked of him.

Weren't we saying the same thing about last year's secondary before it got on the field and got clowned eight or nine weeks out of the year including to a journeyman scrub in the SuperBowl?

Ok you don't like the guy... There is plenty of information about him in this thread:
Bills offer Eagles a second for Nick Foles.

He did show the ability to even man the slot.

I am not sure what person you were watching but it was definitely not Sherman in the slot. He is awful there because his strengths are definitely not emphasized there relative to being an outside CB.

He had surgery on BOTH Achillies?

He recently said that the second surgery was more about a bone spur or something that bothered him for 3 years. But the initial reporting a few weeks back was that he had surgery on the other foot.

Either way he wont be on his feet and full speed running before June.

That squad was decimated. Just getting Hightower and Valentine back, to pull two examples, would give the defense a needed boost. And that's not counting the hypothetical Sherman signing and additional offseason moves in FA and the draft. The major pieces are in place at every level. They just need to add a few to be a solid defense again and Sherman would be a big step in that direction.

Add in the fact that both Chung and McCourty were playing at about 50% or less due to injury and you had a defense that just wasn’t up to that game. I think that defense wasn’t as good as many of us thought they were, but also not as bad as they looked in that game. It still needs to be their primary focus this offseason.

Why would anyone give Talib a pass on this? He had a goddamn bruise and his teammates were imploring him to get back out on the field. Talib begged out of the AFCCG two years in a row, I have no respect for him at all.
A bone bruise is not the same as a normal bruise. Talib later talked about how it swelled up and he lost range of motion.

I don't see how SEA keeps him. They save $11m if he's cut.

It's a facinating situation. Here's a All Pro CB who is useless now but by Halloween could put a contender over the top.

Dude, I get it. Trust me. However, the incident happened years ago! Why keep crying over spilled milk??? It’s not any of us make personnel decisions for NE. If Talib is signed, what are you guys gonna do??? Boycott NE? Not watch the games??? Stop it. If BB decides this is what’s best for the team, then so be it. Now, you can still choose to remain emotional about something that had no affect on you or your family, but the season will go on.

BB doesn’t give a damn about any of our personnel opinions.

Get over it.

I haven’t said anything about it in years, but it definitely becomes relevant again if he wants to come back.

Respect to you. Most of my rant was meant for the other posters who keep whining about it. I didn’t like what Talib did back then either. I’m just simply stating that it happened, we have no control over it, & BB will do whatever he deems necessary.

I was watching him during that game and he was moving just fine on the sidelines, and you could see the other defensive backs ( Dennard in particular)begging him to go back in and he just kept shaking his head no. I get that bone bruises are worse and more painful, I’ve had plenty of them, but two years in a row he begged out of the AFCCG and I don’t think he should get a pass on that. I’m not going to ***** about it if he returns, and I obviously hope he would play great, but I lost all respect for him that day, and that’s not going to change. And I’m pretty sure that knowing that I no longer respect him will upset him greatly.

If I was the Browns or the 49ers I would trade for him. The cap hit barely matters to them and I doubt that Seattle would be picky about compensation. For most teams with a more reasonable amount of cap space his situation is a headache.
