Scenario: A surprise trade

There is zero chance Grinkowski would accept a trade to the Browns, he would retire before doing so.

There will be war if he’s traded at all. Armageddon if he’s sent to Cleveland.

Yes, he would retire fast. So would most guys except collins

Gronk gets to be the face of the Franchise and not overshadowed by a TB (perhaps it's ego with him?). He wants out because he does not feel the love? He will be loved there.

Put drugs down.

Gronk is NOTORIOUSLY devoted to brady.

After the losses where people were talking about needed to replace brady, Gronk was the one in the press that was pissed off and saying that they needed to win for brady, and that they needed to play harder for brady.

Gronk sees Brady like a mentor or sorts. Any insinutation that gronk is upset with brady, or angry about being overshadowed by brady is nonsense to the highest degree. If gronk wasn't feeling the love from brady, he would not be working with brady's personal trainer to follow the tb12 method.

Some may call me crazy, stupid, etc. BB always has a surprise trade every off-season. I think his next surprise trade will be trading Gronk. Why?:
- he is injured a lot and hasn't played a full season in a long time.

- contemplating retirement, gronks heart just isn't there or maybe he is no longer having fun with the Patriots.

- trading Gronk would clear 7 mil of cap space.

- we could see a high draft pick or picks for him.
Obviously you missed my post over a week ago suggesting we swap Gronk even up for Aaron Donald.

Hold on....I said maybe and not what you are thinking in this explanation. I didn't say he was upset with Brady. Look at it this way, I suggested perhaps if he wants to be the (or A) franchise face, as long as TB is here, nyet!
Want them both here. This is a "what if" scenario.

Send him to the LA Chargers who overpay for a big attraction to appease a dwindling fan base and Gronk can get a jump start on his acting career as he signs up for Baywatch 4.

Gronk and Hoff are the next Martin and Lewis.

Just heard on Felger and Mazz a rumor about Cooks to the Bears for a 2018 2nd round pick. I honestly hope they do move him. He just can’t run routes very well. I can’t believe he got a 1,000 yards last season.

There are other trades happening as we speak. We were in on Bennett. After the Eagles got Bennett today. Curry is going to be available.
There was another Trade out today that might be just smoke but Clowney for our #31 to Texas. It messes with our CAP at $13mm but we were after Hopkins for $12mm. Clowney is only 25 and a two time pro bowler. Can you build your defense around him? Now add pieces like Flowers, Rivers, Wise and of course another former S.C. Gamecock Gilmore. With a healthy Hightower you have some tools for Flores.

Idk if I would like that trade. Bears have the 39th pick. Cooks was starting to get dialed in with brady.

Yeah, it will be great to have that precious second rounder so we can draft the next Ras-I-Dowling, Jordan Richards, or Darius Butler instead of having the best legitimate deep threat since Randy Moss at a modest price tag.

The only reason they’d trade Cooks is if Belichick already knows that he doesn’t want to pay him (or they’ve had loose negotiations and are too far apart) for 2019. If that’s the case, he may want to get rid of him a year early, although I still don’t think taking a 2nd now is that much better than getting a 3rd round comp pick for him next year.

I’d be disappointed. I’ve already explained my rationale for not trading Cooks, but only getting a second isn’t good enough. Not for me at least. 1 more season of production from Cooks and then receiving the 3rd rd comp pick is far more valuable to us than a 2nd rd pick on an unknown commodity.

Idk about unknown commodity. You can get another player defensively but i don't like the fact that it's the 39th pick.

They also got Light, Gronk, and Chung with 2nd RD picks.

If it was for a first rounder than maybe you can think about it.

Chung 1.0 wasn’t exactly setting the world on fire and that’s putting it mildly, but Chung 2.0 has been a fine free agent pickup.

I’ll give you Gronk and Light, but it seems like there have been a lot more misses than hits.

Well “Chung 1.0” wasn’t Chung’s fault. BB clearly admitted he misused Chung during his first stint in NE. Coaching mistake.

But what if you look at it as Clowney and a 2nd for Cooks and a 1st? Would be better if the Bears would throw in a 3rd

Chung was a good pick, he was just used wrong, Belichick acknowledged that this season. The draft is a crapshoot, period, and every long term study that has come out has the Patriots either first or second, despite the fact that their average draft position was 28. And while they have had plenty of misses their success with UDFA’s has been outstanding. I agree on Cooks, play out the deal and try to re-sign him, take the comp pick if he leaves. Now is not the time to weaken the roster.

Agreed—at least on some level. They’re also doing a better job of trying to mask his issues in pass coverage than they were before.

At any rate, there have been plenty of second round misses and I’d see no reason to trade a first for Cooks, get him acclimated into the system where he produces nicely, and then trade him for a second round pick at a reasonable (for a WR) salary; particularly when they’d already be getting a 3rd round comp pick. There’s always the thought that it could be a money issue, I suppose, but he just teamed up to give Brady an MVP season.

Maybe The Pats have a rookie they are targeting or Alan Robinson?
