What’s our cap space situation?

I’d be very tempted to switch up the QB and OT selections, especially if Solder returns. They have to start grooming Brady’s replacement because it’s going to take a couple of years, and there was a night/day difference in talent between the 2nd rounder in Garoppolo, and the wasted 3rd rounders that were Kevin O’Connell and Ryan Mallett. That’s a pretty steep drop off in talent, there.

It certainly could be nothing more than a coincidence as the sample size is terribly small, but I wonder if Belichick liked the upgrade in talent picking a high selection QB? We’ll have to see.
Have at it.

Croston as a backup offensive tackle? No thanks.

As for Tony Garcia ................................................

If I were you, I’d start to get used to the idea of Croston as a backup tackle. After all, he’s been active at the position in 4 games this year including the AFCCG, and there have been reports that Scarnecchia is high on him.

Garcia will need to prove himself by putting on weight between now and May, with the hope that he’s much better in 6 months come TC. He’s a high round pick who we shouldn’t give up on, yet. I’m not suggesting that he’s the answer, but he was recently spotted during film study and they have an excellent weight training/nutrition staff to help with the 10 lbs a month that will be needed between now and May. Still holding out hope for a developmental position.

No, we have Karras as the main IOL, and he can play all 3 positions, if needed. We’re much better suited in the interior positions with Thuney, Andrews, Mason, and Karras.

Croston may have received some rookie snaps on the inside due to injuries and getting his feet wet, but I’m thinking that he’ll see more time at OT in the future. We’ll see.

Cole Croston is still working on the art of the kneel down.

Solder - unrestricted free agent
Fleming - unrestricted free agent
Waddle - unrestricted free agent
Cannon - injured reserve
Garcia - non-football illness

2018 NFL Draft
31st overall - CB
43rd overall - OT
63rd overall
95th overall
136th overall (compensatory)

He seems to be doing alright considering the fact that he was active in 4 games as a rookie, including the conference championship. Obviously, they feel as though he was more deserving of the other options, so I see no reason not to at least consider him for a backup role.

Including the fact that Cannon was placed on IR due to his high ankle sprain in 2017 seems like overkill in an attempt to make things look worse than they appear. He is our starting RT under contract and has plenty of time to recover for the 2018 season.

We should certainly have the opportunity to retain at least one of Solder/Fleming/Waddle in free agency. It’s a position that hangs on whether or not Solder will be retained. If he is, we’re fine. If not, we’ll likely have to spend a high draft pick.

You're reaching.

LaAdrian Waddle was on the injury list and inactive versus the Jaguars.

Inactives: Jaguars vs. Patriots

Offensive Tackles
Cannon - injured reserve
Garcia - non-football illness
Waddle - Knee (LP)

It's ridiculous that you should even imply the loss is on Brady's hands.

New England Patriots
2017 NFL Season
Points Scored - 458 or 28.625 per game

New England Patriots
Super Bowl LII
Points Scored - 33

The 33 points scored does not even include a shanked extra point and a botched chip shot field goal (26 yard field goal attempt).

It is ******ed that you are implying it is a week 1 deja vu. The defense did not blow one coverage in the SB but simply got outplayed on an individual level on almost every third down. This didnt happen in game 1. The offense actually got into a groove and scored at will Something that didnt happen in game 1.

You are full of **** and not only wrong with your conclusions but also lazy. Stop posting pointless stats and start watching the gametape.

The New England Patriots don't need anymore special teamers:

Slater, Matthew
Ebner, Nate
Bolden, Brandon
Richards, Jordan
King, Brandon
Flowers, Marquis

The New England Patriots need bona fide cornerbacks not special teamers. Lessons learned from Super Bowl LII.

You forgot Grissom, Grigsby, Reilly, Jon Jones ...

Anyway, apparently you're either unaware of BB's philosophy about special teams or don't subscribe to it.

I never stated Eric Rowe would be cut. If the New England Patriots defense is to take the next step, Eric Rowe will be a backup to Stephon Gilmore next season.

2018 NFL Draft
31st overall - CB
43rd overall - OT
63rd overall - QB
95th overall - DT
136th overall - CB (slot or nickel cornerback)

Because that is what we need.. more early cornerbacks.. the front 7 with almost no talent at all at LB level has issues all year and gets totally exposed in the SB but we need to draft more CBs. Jesus..

18 career starts in five years at Iowa.

Apparently, BB and Scar liked Croston enough to keep him on the 53-man all season.

Anyway, if that NFL Draft Scout profile is intended to prove that he sucks, it doesn't really.

Or both OG and OT - which is pretty much the way I thought he'd go based on pre-draft analyses. In the pre-season, the Pats used him at all OL positions but Center, IIRC.

Scar has pretty much always had one player on the roster who was capable of backing up multiple OL positions. Recently, that's been Fleming. Dan Connolly is probably the classic example, having started at all five OL spots at one point or another, and often for extended numerous consecutive games.

Cole Croston

Five kneel-downs in his last two appearances. You must be impressed.

Not sure what your point is. If it's to note that Waddle has been "injury-prone" his entire NFL career, I'd agree with that.
I guess mathematics was never your strong suit. With Waddle inactive due to a knee injury, the Patriots were down to seven available offensive lineman on the roster.

Yes, no one would ever want to come to Foxborough to play in the annual Tom Brady invitational for the greatest coach in the history of the game.

And no one wants to play in the Final Four seven years in a row, going to the dance 4x. #golfisbetter

Seriously, it doesn't matter f**k-all if I'm impressed (I'm not) or you think he's a worthless piece of s**t (way too early to know). All that matters is that Scar apparently sees potential there - enough so that neither he nor the rest of the Pats roster-management brain trust apparently wanted to risk trying to get his through waivers to the PS.

Croston comes out of Ferentz's Iowa program, one of the few college programs remaining that still teach NFL technique and skills to OL. Due to injury, his college start-count was limited and he entered the draft clearly needing to build up his functional strength in a couple areas. No big deal. That's one of the primary purposes of the strength and conditioning staff, the training table and the weight room.

But, I get it. You think he sucks and are eager to scrape the bottom of the barrel for statistical BS to prove that your opinion is correct and that everyone else's is ignorant. And you've made it extremely clear that your roster philosophy is that pretty much every player must be capable of performing at near starter-level - and demonstrate that ability on the field - immediately, if not sooner, or else they're worthless now and forever.

Good luck in that fantasy world of yours, but I think you're in for a lifetime of heartache and frustration.

He improved in coverage which takes some time as we have seen with great players like Shazier (who needed 2 years to be competent at that on NFL level).

This is an excellent example of a player who went from playing coverage LB like an old lady to playing coverage LB like an all pro.
