BOMBSHELL: Kraft just said on the "2 Bills" that the NFL office wanted Parcells to coach the Jets

Anybody else notice the pencil over Belichick's right ear in the old shots of him as a young coach??? Must be Matt P.'s way of paying homage........

There's also the story from 2004 (after the second SB win) that was told by some national reporter at the tie (IIRC) about how media execs (read: ESPN) and league officials had lobbied Kraft hard not to hire BB as HC in the first place - because BB wasn't "media friendly".

That’s a bold statement given he was here 4 years and had a .500 record.
It is.

1993 was a reboot and a rookie QB
1994 was the playoffs
1995 was a major disappointment but had some good draft picks
1996 was the SB

I'll take any coach in Patriot history over him prior to BB.

I stand by that.

Up until 2001 Parcells was the greatest coach in NEP history.

Huh? Are you sure you meant that? Or should we...

No.

Name a better coach in NEP history before 2000.

You hate Parcells and your bias is clouding your judgement.

I would make the argument that Parcell's as a GM was even better than Parcell as a coach. Willy Mac, Troy Brown, the 1995 draft that brought in Ty Law, Ted Johnson and Curtis Martin. And the 1996 draft with Bruschi, Milloy and Terry Glen. His drafts were solid.
ok he was there when these players were drafted, but he didn't necessarily want all of them. He disliked being overruled and having to take Glenn, although he did work out and played for Parcells in Dallas....he didn't want him in that round. That was one of the points about his "shopping for the groceries if you want me to cook dinner." statement.

Actually, I'm pointing out that in your post, you say you'd take ANY coach OVER Parcells (before BB).

READ YOUR WORDS...

I'll take any coach in Patriot history over him (Parcells) prior to BB.

I mean, he never won anything without Al Groh either.
Yes but compare how Belichick has done without Parcells and how Groh has done without Parcells and you see the true genius behind those Giants teams (and the Patriots SB31 team).

and he lost to Belichick's browns in the 94 playoffs. so his career with the Pats looks like a ER screen...down, up, down, up, dead
I say Berry was better than Parcells....just MHO.

parcells career without BB on his staff in some sort of capacity has been mediocre. don’t get me wrong he’s a good coach but Parcells owes Belichick his thanks for being in the HOF.

I'll always wonder what would have happened in Super Bowl 31 if it was Belichick coaching instead of Parcells.

Pretty sure he would have kept the double team on White as it was doing its job... and kept running C. Martin which was likewise. And asked Vinatieri to keep the ball away from Howard.

I'll go a step further..he didn't even want Glenn. He wanted that rapey guy..what was his name..Christian Peters, I think.

Also on game day bill b always wore red as the dc of the giants. i dont think those two things are a coincidence.

Was he a mercenary?
Less a mercenary....more an opportunist.
Fat Tuna understood the leverage he possessed after his great run with the NYG and his turnaround efforts in NE. He also recognized that HCs are merely employees, GMs possessed greater power, and team executives controlled the operation. The end game was locating a desperate owner willing to dangle a slice of ownership.
After a great run of success, the Fat Tuna operated with one intention....extracting as much tribute from the billionaire suckers.
Tuna was greedy....but....he had an eye for talent....especially in the coaching ranks.

Thats fine. Certainly Berry had success no question.

I just don't think hes not even in the same zip code as Tuna

Opportunist is appropriate. Self-serving. Cut-throat. Shrewd.

See that’s how .500 works, half good half bad.
I’m not sure what draft picks someone else made have to do with his job as a coach.

Parcells is the 2nd best coach to have coached the patriots but ray berry was a more successful patriot coach, which is what we are talking about here. Parcells success in other places is irrelevant.

As a patriot coach he did better. For a coaching career obviously Parcells is far ahead.
