Pats/Jags Game Plan, Breakdown ...

Your playing 6 dbs?

We will run over that like a bulldozer.
Since 218 lb smith and jack play every down, that’s a 3-2-6 with small guys everywhere.

It's a hypothetical. You were asking who would cover who. I expect the Pats to come out using a ton of 12 and 22 personnel. Two TE sets should be the order of the day against a smaller D. Mow them down like grass and go no huddle of you see Pos on the field.

I think I read somewhere else that the Jags essentially don't have a dime package, but their defense is best against 3 receiver personnel groupings. I would expect the Pats to use lots of 12 and 21 personnel.

Bouye or Ramsey on Gronk
Ramsey or Bouye on Cooks
Free safety playing centerfield
Safety on Dola (or 3rd CB if they are in Nickel? That would potentially help the run game)
That would leave a safety or LB to cover RB out of the backfield

I like it.
But really with Gronk we are a 4 wr offense.

Disagree. 3 wr TE rb.
That will make Jax go smaller.
If you okay 2 TE Campbell is outside and Dareus inside and pozluzny may be in too.

The trick us get Campbell inside and poz off the field then they are tiny.

What? Have you watched many Jaguars games this year? If you're going to throw the ball, why in God's name would you want Pos off the field? Or are you saying you want to run the ball out of that set?

Interesting...but I think that potentially plays to their strength. Then again, as I said they don't really play dime.

What stood out to me when studying the Jaguars’ snap counts is how little they relied on their backups in the secondary. Outside of their top three cornerbacks and their top two safeties, no secondary player played more than 5% of the snaps. Essentially, the 2017 Jaguars didn’t have a dime defense.

What? Have you watched many Jaguars games (that's a rhetorical question as I know you probably don't get many of them up there)? If you're going to throw the ball, why in God's name would you want Pos off the field? Or are you saying you want to run the ball out of that set?

Yeah, if they go small NE is definitely going to run.

Yeah run all day out of it.

From that great article Uptown shared

3+ WRs: 39% success rate allowed, 5.0 YPA, 59 rating

2 WRs or less: 55% success rate allowed, 9.6 YPA, 99 rating

This is def worth noting.

Also JR was asked a question "IF" he went out wide against him etc.

Of course he's going to say something Ramsey-like.

Please put JR & a S on Gronk. Please.

I'm expecting a lot of 2 RB looks, esp of Jack is on Gronk. We can run while flexing one or spread both out. I dont think Jax has an answer for that.

If you put a corner on Gronk who covers cooks, hogan and amendola?

I go Nickel and a safety gets Hogan and maybe Cooks once or twice. Not optimal, but it’s only happening occasionally. I’m not doing it every play.

Hey, what do I know, these guys barely covered Kelce.

You actually can pass successdully out of a 22 formation. Often.

I think you need to look deeper than # of WRs. I don’t think the same team doing poorly with 3 WRs in the same situations are doing well with 2.

I think we go lewis, Gronk and 3 wide.
If they actuslly put 6 dbs on the field Lewis runs crazy.
22 makes sense imo only if you want to have a TE stay in to pass block.

Nah, they defend 11 personnel really well. They have three very good corners - Bouye, Ramsey and Colvin.

But it makes no sense that they are better at defending 3 wide than 2 wide.

have to think this is relevant. Alot of talk about "sacksonville" and the front 4, but you take out games against the texans/colts and you have about 2 sacks a game for the rest of their games.

As a lot of us already read in another thread I doubt the pats use a ton of 2-3 Wr sets, Jags are excellent against those formations.
