Byron Jones (22.11 mph) was the fastest measured defender this season. But the next three are all Patriots:

"Other top speeds on defense: Malcolm Butler, Patriots (22.07); Johnson Bademosi, Patriots (21.72); Devin McCourty, Patriots (21.66); and David Amerson, Raiders (21.62)."

Butler a bit of a surprise here.

Fun article. I'm not sure it amounts to a whole lot, but it's neat to know that we aren't lacking speed on defense.

Coincidentally, all were clocked chasing Chiefs 60 yards down the field in week 1 :D

Wonder what Cassius Marsh clocked in at!

Butler's speed is not really a surprise to anyone who's really paid attention. He's probably the 2nd fastest cb on the team, after JJ.

Thanks for the article, nice read, but your intro a little misleading: the next three IDENTIFIED are Patriots, but only 3 of 4 NEXT FASTEST are Patriots (smaller is better here), so pats at spots 3,4 and 5:

David Amerson, Raiders (21.62)
Devin McCourty, Patriots (21.66)
Johnson Bademosi, Patriots (21.72)
Malcolm Butler, Patriots (22.07)

No, these are MPH numbers, so bigger is better.

Oops my bad reading. Thx

If my math is correct, that translates to about a 9.27 in the 100 yard dash ( 60 mph =88 ft/sec)for Butler..prorated of course..

22.07/x=60/88 ( 60 mph is 88 feet per second)
x=32.27 feet per sec
1/32.27 x 300 ( ft in 100 yard dash)= 9.27 sec for 100 yd dash

I have seen some long ball completions against our secondary which can be disheartening. But so many times that does happen, when this same play would net a td, our guys caught the guy from behind, keeping him from scoring. Then the D would stiffen and hold that offense to a field goal or even stop them from scoring at all.
So yeah. I guess I have to say our secondary has some speed.
Our D definitely has some problems but they play well enough for wins.

Malcolm Butler has excellent make up speed and is an elite corner, contrary to opinions that he's slow and easily beat on deep routes

What?? and we paid Stephon Gilmore all that $$$?? BB the GM I tell ya again.:D

No Jonathan Jones on this list?
Read the article from what the Pats players say who is the fastest guy on the team- the consensus isJ.Jones, followed by,in no particular order, cooks and Butler. Dmac and Slater get mentioned too.

In the back end, that's true.

The front 7 is about as slow as the secondary is fast, however.
