Steelers to rest Roethlisberger and Bell against Cleveland

I'm not sure that's a winning argument.

I think 2010 (Jets) was the last time a team in the AFCE other than the Pats was a threat to be competitive in a divisional round game or later.

The Ravens have been more than respectable over that same period.
True and the Bengals have been decent recently. They fell off the earth the last two years though.

ESPN Playoff Scenario Tracker:

1. Steelers rest starters; Pitt loses, Jets upset Pats
  • Pats Fans: Haha Tomlin is such an idiot! (anyone with half a brain knew Jets could upset Pats!)
  • Steelers Fans: Fire Tomlin! (anyone with half a brain knew Jets would upset Pats!)

2. Steelers play starters; Pitt wins, Pats win, Pitt starters suffer injuries
  • Pats Fans: Haha Tomlin is such an idiot! (anyone with half a brain knew injuries would happen!)
  • Steelers Fans: Fire Tomlin! (anyone with half a brain knew injuries would happen!)

3. Steelers rest starters; Pitt wins, Pats win
  • Pats Fans: Haha Tomlin is (still) such an idiot! (anyone with half a brain knows 'rust' will set in!)
  • Steelers Fans: Fire Tomlin! (anyone with half a brain knows 'rust' will set in!)

4. Steelers rest starters; Pitt wins every playoff game by 20, including SB
  • Pats Fans: (N/A - Pats fans' brains will not compute such an absurd hypothetical)
  • Steelers Fans: Fire Tomlin! (Russ Grimm would have won every game by 40...plus those were Cowher's players)

Conclusion: Steelers winning every playoff game by >40 points is only tolerable scenario

By George, old boy, I think you've nailed it!

Square in the black, as it were

There is no chance the patriots lose so there is no risk.

Man, this really brings back memories from when you were heaping scorn on anybody who dared express any worry before the sure-thing Miami game.

Tomlin's playing the odds, it's not a crazy thing to do. But the message to the team that he's giving up on the #1 seed has to raise some eyebrows.

Don’t remember heaping scorn.

Would Steelers are resting their starters mean that they’d televise a more competitive game in the Jets and patriots?

Conclusion: Steeler lose to Pats in playoff game no matter where its played.

The Steelers went from 14 point favorites now down to 6.

I wish I could read a Vegas casino timeline on how quickly the spread changed after the news leaked out the Ben and Bell weren't playing.

Bunch of pansies! Hope they look rusty in the afc divisional round.
