Gronkowski Likely Facing Penalty From NFL After Hit On Sunday

The league has been waiting for this for years. Brady was suspended 4 games for nothing at all. Gronkowski, as I've said repeatedly for a long time, is consistently targeted by the officials for nonexistent infractions. This is the first time the league has actually been able to find a specific real case where a Patriot committed a genuine infraction. And it was caught on video. This will be at least a 6 game suspension and large fine. The suspension in conjunction with Gronk's incentives will make this an effective fine well into the millions. And like in '15 this could end the Patriots chances to repeat or even make the Super Bowl.

But the roles aren't reversed. Surprise! In sports fandom how we would react if this was a Raven or a Phin doing this to another team's player, or to a Patriot player etc isn't going to be the same.
I think it was last year (maybe the year before) a Lions player purposefully tried to take out the knee of a Patriot player well after the whistle. I think he got a 12,500 fine.

The fact we would be outraged if it was a Patriot on the end of that late hit isn't going to stop me from pointing out Gronk didn't spear the guy. That he immediately after the play (hardly suggesting premeditated purpose) let his emotion and frustration play out by leading with a forearm leading slam that caught the bottom back of the helmet. That more premeditated intent to injure (Lions v Patriots) has occurred without massive penalty.
This obviously is going to draw a punishment but let's not go hysterical. Gronk made a heat of the moment mistake, it happens,, I don't believe the Bill's player was more seriously hurt than what an extra hard unsuspecting tackle would cause (we'll see), and any attempt to make this more than a fine or one game is demonstrable BS based on past incidents.
It was not a football play or hit. One game minimum but I would not be surprised if it is more. Fact is if he broke his neck, he would be in a jail cell right now.

just to be clear you mean the DB's contact with Gronk was Patriot like correct?
Yes. The strategy of giving an opposing receiver a bump, a tug, a push, a pull, etc, and continuing to do it if the refs aren't calling it is very Patriots-like.

We can (and should) get mad at the refs. But I can't fault the Bills that strategy.

Looks like Gronk won't win the offensive player of the week award. Damn it.

On a positive note at least Gronk brought attention to the way he is being held and interfered with seemingly every play. I'm sure the NFL HQ was unaware of this and will now have a chat with the zebra fraternity. "Knock it off" they'll say. "Call the games fairly or else!!"

The tide is turning folks.

You don't know how to read, period.
Nope. You pretty much insinuated Rodney was a troll and made no attempt to explain why he wasn't one when pressed. Pretty much you'd throw any former player under the bus to advance your agenda.

I understand his frustration. Being held all game and especially on that play that resulted in an int. Don't care if they suspend him, it would get him some rest and mad and Gronk smash everyone afterwards.

It may end up being something that helps him as it is drawing attention to that he does not get calls when the other players are hanging off of him. I would suspend him and I guarantee the NFL will but for different reasons than I would .

No not true. Rodney is a dink. Has been for awhile.
I agree he is a dink. But he still deserves to be taken at face value (even if he is a dink) without the insinuation that he is Goodell's concubine.

Everyone around here keeps suggesting it is all one big conspiracy where Goodell the idiot is also the Machiavellian genius who gets everyone to do his bidding. Sometimes a poor choice is just a poor choice and a suspension is just a suspension.

Moving on.

Or the league tells refs to give him fewer calls, looking for Gronk to meltdown a second time after things get worse, not better. Goodell would love nothing more than to kick Gronk out of the postseason for a second infraction. Let's hope it doesn't come to that.

Cute take - sounds like maybe you equate your success with a local sports team and not what you have accomplished here in Boston?

Either way, don’t care to wave ****s with you. If you want to equate how well you have done in life with a bunch of dream figures then good for you.

All I’m saying is if you are defending a guy that took a blind head shot at the back of someone’s head because of the region they are from or the design of their clothes then I feel sorry for you.

You win.

I'm sorry that your team has more bildos thrown on the field than playoff appearances this century. Now go away troll.

Totally, way too much grabbing and pushing and shoving...it showed on the replay 3 times that guy committed a penalty on a single play on Gronk!
I’d be frustrated as well!

With that said I hope Gronk realizes that we need him and a suspension at this time of the season could cause us not to get the number one seed since we have the Steelers breathing around our necks.

I rather see the Steelers instead of the Ravens in the playoffs.

I honestly don't know why this thread has gotten to 20 pages. Gronk, who has been treated differently, and unfairly, by the officials for years, did something stupid and dangerous out of frustration, and injured someone he had no call to injure. He'll get punished for it, and deservedly so. We have to assume that anything from a fine to a multi-game suspension will be on the table, and that the appeals process will deal with it, should Gronk feel the penalty is too harsh.

Beyond that, what the hell else is there to say?

People keep talking about suspension for just the Miami game. With the garbage they pull in that Park Ave office, it's possible he gets suspended for 2 games. If that happens, we probably split MIA and PIT games and lose the 1 seed. I am mentally prepared for the league to screw us.

This will be at least a 6 game suspension and large fine.
Surely, you don’t really believe this, do you?

The one and only debate is if Gronk gets a large fine or is suspended for the Miami game. That’s it. Didn’t you just see the incident last week with Talib and Crabtree snatching chains and throwing punches? They ended up with a game suspension after their appeals.

I suppose I could see two games because the league commissioner is an idiot, but 6 games? Really?

Jerry Jones may have helped with this ha ha

I'm not about to read thru, close to 400 post's, I think Gronk was wrong...
..But

I think there are "wrong, dirty" plays in every game.

We got our Ass's kicked against Miami (physically).

Miami (Suh, Alonzo.,.) have been dirty for years... Nobody cares.

And, a lot of fan's were crying about (the Pats) not getting physical enough.
There were fan's saying, 'Hit these guy's back' .

I kind of like the "Dirty" moniker, myself.

F' it. The league as a whole hates us anyway.
...And the league, as a whole, is far from a Wholesome, family oriented, honest, choir boy image.

I, personally am sick of the one sided (Integrity) BS. Because, Integrity is BS in the NFL.

I hope teams fear us.

...Yeah, I'm a little Crazy. But I like being the bully a little bit. I'm tired of the Knight on white horse crap.

If I'm wrong, then so are 99.9 percent of honest, Non finger pointing fans the agree.

The 2 faced, PC, ones will disagree. But,.. well that's the point.

The charge will be led by the Ravens, Jets, and Colts.

That's all everyone has been saying in this thread. We are frustrated too with how the league treats Gronk. We love Gronk here and with so many members, everyone should have their say in their own way.
