Gronkowski Likely Facing Penalty From NFL After Hit On Sunday

It was actually very Patriots-like and something this team has, in the past, prided themselves on: Nothing wrong with a little contact in the defensive backfield and if the refs aren't calling it, then just keep doing it.
Hell, NE won 3 Superbowls playing like that.

Actually it does add something, it refutes his ridiculous claim that he is being trolled on a patriot board. The quotes were intended as humor because he hasn’t added a thing.
A bills fan trolling on a patriot board asks for such a response.

Tiu in the other hand are trolling patriot fans and coming to the defense of bills fans. I think you need to chug that febreeze.
What does "Tiu" refer to?

I couldn't care less about defending Bills fans, btw. I merely think there are a lot of crazy Patriots fans tonight who are angry someone within the fanbase doesn't agree with what Gronk did and think he should be held accountable for it. I like to keep us honest on here so we can debate actual football issues like rationale adults rather than being like a band of cultists angry someone disagreed with the glorious leader.

It was right at the first down marker. Flacco acted indecisive as to whether he was going to go for the first or not.

he went feet first

alonso took multiple steps and targeted the head, and made no attempt to pull up.....he lowered the boom on his head......

multiple 'new' NFL rules were put in place to prevent that, and he ignored them all

just to be clear you mean the DB's contact with Gronk was Patriot like correct?

but there ISN'T that precedent.....the precedent is that the league is ridiculously inconsistent......flacco slid head first, which is supposed to be a free ride.....alonso came from 4 steps away and lowered the boom on flacco's head, no ejection, no suspension...he got a 9k fine

there IS no precedent, and that's the problem
Yeah, but the play wasn't dead on the Flacco hit. I rewatched the Gronk hit and it was even worse than I thought because the guy was down AND out of bounds. He literally smashed him in the back of the head and gave him a concussion. I'm not turning on the team and will support Gronk despite this, but all Gronk did was give haters legitimate aresenal to hate Gronk and call him a dirty player. He's no Suh, but if Suh did this to us we would be calling for a suspension.

Here’s the play.

1. Lots of DPI prior to the catch, the defender grabbed Gronk and clutched his jersey for about half the play.
2. I think the throw was off target, maybe underthrown; I didn’t think the defender pushed off.
3. There’s a long time between the defender falling OB, then getting touched down, then Gronk jumping him.
4. Gronk looked pissed off and incredulous that the DPI led to an INT, judging by his hands to his helmet right before taking off and blasting the guy.
5. The defender did look a little woozy before Gronk hit him, which may mean Gronk lit up a concussed guy.

I’d say Gronk gets fined heavily. I could see a game too. More than that is way too much, based on some of the recent plays that didn’t incur suspensions.

BTW I hate the QB slide play, it just seems inevitable that plays like the Alonso play will happen, where the defender and QB decide to make their moves too closely in time. Not a comparable here IMO.

As a Bills fan, what is the reaction of your fanbase? Are people okay with what Gronk did, slighly annoyed, or foaming at the mouth? I know if I were a Bills fan, I'd probably be going berserk.
If the roles were reversed we'd all be losing our goddamn minds about it and rightfully so.

That said, I don't think many people are condoning Gronk's actions more so getting flustered about the potential harshness of his inevitable penalty.

Typo. Should say “you”

I could care less about Bills fans, btw.
Then why are you posting about it.

You are trolling.

And you just admitted that post was another troll.

You mistake accountability with your chosen consequence. They are very different

the mods don't really ban for that.
haha. For sure. But the way some people have been talking, I swear for some this is a Patriots fan "safe space" rather than a place genuinely to debate what is best for the team.

The last thing I would call this board is a safe space.

the play was dead the moment flacco went feet first......that's the same as being tackled, the spot goes to where starts the slide....play was done, flacco was down, alonso still took multiple steps and lowered his shoulder into his head, didn't even attempt to pull up.....that was more egregious than gronk, and it broke multiple player safety rules, he knocked flacco out of the game

gronk made a dumb play after the whistle letting his emotion getting the best of him.....lousy play, but it has been happening forever.....he dropped his shoulder onto his numbers, his head was driven into the ground.....****ty play, but he wasn't 'targeting the head', and piled on after the whistle because he was pissed off......****ty, dumb assed play.....but nowhere near the Alonso hit imo

I posted about it since you have been calling those who disagree with you a troll. The hypocrisy seems strong, since you seem to be looking to inflame matters. The guy didn't seem to be doing much harm, so I'm not sure what the attack was for.

If White is concussed the calculus on the league's punishment changes IMO. Concussions are such a massive issue for the NFL right now, and they're a multi-billion dollar business that has always used player discipline as part punishment, part PR maneuver to protect the brand.

Regardless of where you stand on whether Gronk *should* be suspended, it's almost moot if White stays in the protocol for an extended period.

The NFL would suspend Gronk as essentially a business decision - it can't afford to look weak on concussions, period. It certainly won't want this particular hit (not only blatant and ugly, but outside the whistle) looped ad nauseum as just one more exhibit on how the NFL doesn't take brain trauma seriously enough.

Would you guys find outrageous if Gronk was suspended for a game? I mean, even without the public outcry? Cause is a totally legitimate response...

If there werent precedent and/or a table on how those things are handled, I would probably agree with that, If Im being honest. It was a very dirty move

What is going on with Mitchell? Is he going to be back for the first playoff game? What about Hogan?

The last thing I would call this board is a safe space.
Oh it isn't safe at all. But for a lot of posters, they want it to be a safe space free of disagreement. I'm actually glad it isn't that. These spirited debates keep things interesting rather than the upteenth "Goodell is the Devil," "Kraft is the Devil," or "Jerrrry is the Devil" thread where everyone can hold hands, sing Kumbaya, and gangb*ang some truth into those ****s/libterds/fascists/pickyourgroupofdirisioninwhicheasybinariesmakecomplicatedrealitiesoflifeeasierforthosewhodontwanttocriticalthink.

Great point. It's obvious but I hadn't yet put too much thought into the concussion aspect of it.
