Official Post Game Thread - Pats destroy Raiders!!!!!!

The thing about today's game is that, if the Raiders had just not soiled themselves, this could have been a legitimate game. As Patriots fans, we're stuck knowing that there's only one more of those left on the schedule.

Seriously, unless somehow can figure out in advance that the Patriots are going to stink it up for a game, there's no real drama left this regular season, outside of the Pitt game.

Ok, why would anyone disagree with the quoted post?

Patriots thoughts.

Offense

Waddle injury is interesting. I hope Cannon is back next week and we don't need to worry about that situation. The OL had a great game. Mack got a sack but Mack will get you on occasion. The whole line did overall a good job in run and pass blocking.

Nice to see the Pats can still build a offensive game plan around WRs. Seen so many focused on RBs and TEs recently you almost forget WRs can catch the ball too. Burkhead had his first bad game today. I am not worried about it. I still think he i the best RB threat we have. I do now question his ability to quickly put a mistake behind him though. To used the word of another poster he was "shook" after the fumble and had a bad drop.

Bennett looks slower than last year. Odd considering his shoulder is the issue. Still he is dependable with the hands. Allen seems to have finally gotten over the hump but we will see. We forget sometimes how mental the game is.

Brady is Brady.

Defense

Gilmore has really has done better since coming back from his injury. Butler has me concerned. Just can't seem to get to fully together. J Jones is really coming on strong but he was lucky a 3rd down throw was missed that he was beat on early. It would have gone for 25 yards.

Jordan Richards has been in a fair amount there year and i held my breath each time. In all this time I can't think of one play this year he has blown for us.

Van Noy with another solid game. Not a Harris type game today as the plan was let them run; you need to think when it gets colder we will see him more.

Even with being run on I though Butler was solid. That awareness to knock down the ball was good. Branch was okay. Flowers had pressure a fair amount this game vs a good OL. I'd like other guys too do more though.

STs/Other/Coaching

Gost was great today. Punting was smart and the returns were good.

The Pats have done really well with penalties the last few games. They are playing really smart.

While I have liked the coached there have been a few questionable plays here and there that I would like to know what the thought process was.

Harris played today

Harris played today

I should have been more clear. I mean more in the fact he was barely used. I'll change it for clarity. I think I only saw him in 4 snaps. Maybe he was used more but I dont recall seeing his name more than a few times

Got you I didnt mean to call you out as wrong or anything.
I saw him for about 10 snaps

No, I am wrong as much as anyone and don't mind admitting it. Sometimes I am in such a rush to get my post out I don't reread them or think of the way i word things carefully.

Sometimes I am just plain wrong. This was a case of me making a mistake in how i wrote it. I shouldn't have worded it like that as it would be obvious people would take it literally and thought i meant he was a healthy scratch or something.

So why did you take out the question mark when you asked if Harris played after he responded to you.

Temper the expectation for the pass defense.
Competitive coverage, make the tackle when the pass is caught, don't allow big plays.
(not directed at you) if the expectation is shut down pass coverage then disappointment awaits. But we are good enough to have a hand near every reception, make the QB have to check down, outright defense some passes, limit YAC. If we do that then that is a performance that is plenty good enough to compliment the O.
Overall Rush D, first half, was concerning today. First down rush D has been good for some weeks (the 2nd down rush D has, at times, been worse than expected). The Raider OL appeared to be opening some holes a bit too widely (yea yea). I'd like to think that a return of Malcolm Brown would have helped.
