2017 . Trade Deadline . thread

Stupid dream, but if it were possible, trade Gilmore, + Mitchel + 1st and maybe 4th for Peterson and Fitzgerald.

The Cardinals are done. Peterson wants out, Fitzgeald will never say it, but he is frustrated. They need to rebuild. Would help us in the immediate and help the Cardinals long term.

Biggest fear is the Cardinals trading Fitz to the Stealers because of Ariens connection.

I am drunk, friends took me out for my 50th Bday, so forgive me if I am irrational.

Peterson has made it known that he thinks Brady and the Pats are big cheaters.

Interesting question regarding trading a RB. Every single one is filling a role that isn't the same as any other. While the question is a lot easier than analyzing each player (cap impact probably makes certain players not tradable):

Gill is statistically the surest 3 yards on the team -- short yardage needed for first down. Decent power w fair moves, he is the wear them down runner. Adds extremely little to the pass game. Durability good so far. Unless Burkhead took this role, unlikely, Gill is indispensable.

White, is the third down back, the main passing threat, and he can take some-ish runs and be productive. He's our Vereen, Whitehead, Faulk position and is doing it well. So far he has shown to be durable. Unless Lewis was to take this role, White is indispensable.

Lewis is, IMHO, clearly the biggest threat to break tackles. This season he's been the between White and Gill -- getting action in the run game while catching some/a bit of passes. Durability concern even before the Patriots. But a healthy Lewis is an asset with clearly the best moves of the group. Keep his snapcount right -- health -- and he is a dame fine 'tween' for Gill and White. Also now contributing a key spot on ST. If White gets hurt he is the backup.

Burkhead is the wildcard. The biggest of the 4 (5'10" 215). Durability isn't quite yet a concern but he was hurt. Since returning he has shown good production both run and pass. I assume(?) he is the backup if Gill gets hurt. Could he be the third down back in a pinch??

Burkhead and Lewis, as different as their 'moves' and size are, actually overlap the most? Huh.
Unless the player to be named in the trade is going to make a tangible impact in a position we have to have, I'd hate to lose any one of these guys. As the weather gets colder and potentially messier, being able to give such differing looks/skills? Being able to keep each one's snap count down/fresher? When one isn't working on any given Sunday being able to try the next or the next to see if he can breakout? With injuries always on the horizon? Given our passing game may not be as potent as last year making the run game even more critical?
Lots of reasons to keep all 4 but RB seems to be where our cup most runnith over if trade bait is needed. Unfortunately I think it will be Lewis who is traded (again cap implications as well as contract status that make a trade viable/not viable is not considered here).

He has?

Because a quick Google search yields no results of him being recorded saying that.

In fact, the Patriots brought him in for a workout this past offseason.

Could be on about Pat Pete

I like the RB corps just as it is. Versatility plus some redundancy.

In any case, given that Hogan may be out awhile and that only receiving production from the TE group has come from Gronk, it would seem counter productive to the passing attack to give up a pass-catching RB at this point.

Because Jack Kent Cooke of the Redskins used to stash a whole second team on IR to hold on to players. The restrictions were a response to that.

Jack Kent Cooke has been dead for 20 years, time to reconsider a rule that is based upon one person's manipulation.. it make no sense for a player to get injured in preseason or week 1 and not allowing that player to return after he is well enough to play the game..

A 4th + Allen to Seattle for Graham might be better. The Pats couldn't afford Graham's remaining salary without getting rid of Allen. I genuinely think Allen can produce for another team. Just not a fit on the Pats.

The way I read it, trading Allen would save the Pats a bit under $1.5m on the cap, whereas cutting Allen would save only about $210k.

IDK about Graham, specifically (and the Seahawks have definitively denied the trde rumors), but it would certainly help the Pats offense - especially in the red zone - to get more receiving production out of the TE position beyond what Gronk has been contributing.

Happy birthday. Sounds like it was a good one.

Random NFL GM: "Gee, he hasn't had a catch with Tom Brady as his QB, but I bet if we traded from him, and he was playing with (insert name of Random NFL GM's scrub QB here) he would be an All-Pro".

Nobody is trading for Allen, you might be able to throw him in along with something much better. But all this "let's trade Allen" talk is basically BS, and its not going to happen.

The Pats could use some help in the front 7, but only BB trades away top end front seven players. The only chip that the Pats have would be Garrapollo, and I don't see them moving him. I wouldn't expect much from this trade deadline.

I do not believe that he parted with the Squeelers on the best of terms.
Whether they get this guy or not it wont be because of that.

And remember that unlike the vast majority of players (including Tom Brady), Fitzgerald does have the ability to veto a trade.

Patriots probably could have gotten Hilton for what they gave up for Allen and Dorsett. Ah well, what could have been.

Sh.tfaced would a better term.

Trade a 1st, a promising young receiver, and take huge cap hits to bring in two guys who are in the final stages of their careers?

Hopefully you never remember this post and you blame it on friends who root for the Chiefs and Steelers.

Lombardi thinks TY Hilton and Joe Staley would be the biggest names that could be on the move.
