Post Game Thread Pats @ Jets

Number one, any Pats game that ends with a win and no major injuries I'll take every time.

Having said that, you've got to contort yourself into a pretzel to take the position that the Pats passing defense looked good in this game. But silver lining, Gilmore and Rowe were out.

I do wish Atlanta had beaten the Dolphins today.

I'm not saying you're wrong, I just think they didn't play great this game....that's just my opinion
They did put some decent pressure on McCown at the end.

Need that kind of effort all game.

I assume it's a size thing. Bademosi has 3 inches and about 20 pounds on Jones, so against bigger receivers Bademosi may be a better matchup even if Jones is a better corner.

I hadn't considered that, although the only Jets WR who saw a large amount of playing time and is listed over 6'1 is Anderson, who was covered by Butler for the majority of the day.

McGowan shredded them but his Butler INT turned the game from the Jets shockingly blowing our doors open to advantage Patriots.

I just dont get why everything is always a negative. McCown throws the best pass of his game against Jonathan Jones who is very tight in coverage => our defense sucks. He reverts back to what he usually is and Butler intercepts him => McCown sucks.

Does anyone have any insight as to why Bademosi got the start at CB over Jones? I figured because Jones has more experience in the system and actually played a bit at nickel corner last year that he'd be the second CB behind Butler. From the eye test, that wasn't the case today although I suppose we'll know more when the snap counts come out. Just thought it was interesting.

He can't really cover, but he's a pretty damned good tackler from what I saw.

I agree, but I want to see how they look when Gilmore and Rowe come back. Think being low on personnel was a big part of the problem today.

I see progress though, lot more work to be done.

Yeah, it's weird - I see a bit of progress in spots, but a frustrating lack of it in others. On one hand, I'm glad we're finally stopping the run on first down and in short yardage situations, although I'm not sure how much of that was us and how much of it was Powell being out and Forte and McGuire being JAGs. Our secondary blew a bunch of coverages, but when you're missing 2 of your top 3 corners that can happen. McCourty, Chung and Harmon all played well (I can't say the safeties played well because Richards sucked).

The LBs, though... they really worry me. We just don't have much talent there. I thought Van Noy was okay today (not just saying that because he got a sack), but Roberts is just too slow and Marsh, for all his athleticism, just makes some really dumb plays.

The replay does not show when he regains possession. But even if it
was all crystal clear, the D was bailed out by a fluke play. Had he been an inch before the pylon they retain possession. Not the kind of play we can count on. Are you confident heading into the Falcons? Lotsa holes in this team.
By rule he was clearly out of bounds when he regained possession.
Let's not forget this wasn't an unforced error, the fumble was caused.

I'm taking about the call not trying to turn the call into a referendum on future games.

The Falcons are a good team. It will be a tough game but I like our guys and Atlanta is playing worse that the patriots are right now.

Yeah, that's definitely true. On the Jets' first TD, a better/more experienced corner breaks that pass up at a minimum and maybe even has a play on the ball. It was pure inexperience on Jones' part that he didn't get his head around and locate the ball.

Also the throw was on the move by McCown with A. Butler inches behind him. It was a great throw.

Agree run d was good.
Disagree on 3rd down. After the 1st drive the Jete were 5/13 on 3rd.
As far as receivers it should be noted that out of 31 completions (in 47 attempts) only 11 were to WRs.
4 big plays 44, 31,30, 32 are a concern but other than those he had 27 completions that only totalled 217 yards. (I think the difference between a few bigs plays or consistently not stopping anyone is pertinent to discussion)
And it happened with 2 starting corners out and a guy who hadn't played a defensive snap starting.

It's always a work in progress. I don't want them playing like this in January but this was a step in the right direction to me.

That's fair points that you make, let's hope that we keep improving

The defense was borderline atrocious today. They did make a few clutch plays that helped them win the game, but overall they were very below average.

They better get better when Gilmore/Rowe return.

Plus the drive only got that far because of two bizarre holding calls on Brown and Branch on running plays. On that drive, the Jets lived by fluky, weird calls and they died by a fluky, weird call. It all evened out in the end.

And I am more concerned about our offense than the defense based on the last two games. One of the two is trending into the right direction compared to where they were 3 weeks ago.

Yeah, definitely understand the concern there...our last two games have not been the best...I think we'll need to improve on both sides of the ball going forward.

Okay, youre right. If we're going by the letter of the law, then the right call was made. But if you or anyone else thinks thats a fair call then youre delusional. Like i said before, this isnt a pats vs. jets issue, this is an nfl issue

This rule has been discussed many times in the past. It's probably one of the most unpopular rules in the game. But it's a rule and has been called quite a few times.

Here's one for you. Seems like the rule doesn't fit the game but it's a rule.

It would be such a cosmic FU to the Jets and NFL if the Pats got the first seed due largely in part to this win and went on to win another SB. I would take 20 losing seasons afterwards for that outcome. It'd be perfect

Without seeing the all 22 it looked like they were trying to protect Brady more so than usual. I saw a lot of RB's chipping hard coming out of the backfield etc....
