I should have been more specific. Which players can we have back and when?

Looks like two players will be able to begin practicing after week 6 and activated to play after week 8 (which is the Pats bye week).

From Wiki: Injured reserve list - Wikipedia

"starting in 2012, the NFL and the NFLPA reached an agreement allowing one player placed on injured reserve to be brought back to the active roster.[3] Provided that the player was on the final 53-man preseason roster (A rule exempted for the 2012 season), and that the injury is deemed to keep this player unable to practice or play football for an estimated six weeks, the player may be allowed to practice after Week 6, and be activated to play after Week 8.[4] As of 2017, teams may now return two players from injured reserve after Week 8.[5]"

Need info on when each player was IRed (the unable to practice or play for 6 weeks) following part.

Antonio Garcia, OT was place on the NFI [Illness] list. He is eligible to return as a player on the PUP would be. Hopefully, the unannounced reason is neither substance abuse nor behavioral, to avoid these questions the team should've stated why he is "ill". Also, a draft pick has special determination listed below.

Rules:
NFL PUP list, Injured Reserve, NFI List rules and the 2017 San Francisco 49ers

All said, someone posted earlier that it would be 8 weeks (I don't remember who), which is different from what I read. So, there's a good chance he comes back this season under both scenarios.

EDIT: This seems to say maybe not, I'd like to know what's true.

Patriots rookie OT Antonio Garcia will apparently not return in 2017

I read somewhere that, because he was not on the 53 man roster at the start of the season, Garcia is not eligible to return this season.

Ok Thanks

Sept 4 - Shea McClellin - Eligible return date: October 16, 2017

Sept 9 - Malcom Mitchell.- Eligible return date: October 21, 2017

Sept 22 - Vincent Valentine - Eligible return date: November 3, 2017

Edit: Those dates are Eligible to return to practice. They would still have to wait two weeks to play. If my facts are correct.

Based on his clutch performance in the big game, I hope Mitchell returns. As a rookie, he had Brady's trust - a sign he is a keeper if he can stay on the field.

Mitchell and Valentine would be my two picks to return

I agree but if Valintine and McClellin are able to return they would fill a much bigger need imo.

Idk if adding another average LB helps. Valentine is a boost and so would be Mitchell. Either way I hate our LB lol.

You could be right. Valentine may be enough to settle the front 7 issues. If he could help the run defense maybe the LB crew could sit back a little easier and handle the edge and RB's more comfortably.

Does anyone know what happened to Garcia? Hope his illness isn't going to impact him later on in life.

Is there a sell-by date on those eligible to return? That is, is there a date after which if they are not activated they cannot be activated?

Players who have been released from IR with an injury settlement are eligible to be re-signed by their original team after the length (in weeks) of the agreed upon settlement PLUS 3 weeks. AFAIK, settlement lengths are often 3-4 weeks, but can vary a lot.

Such players would include (all these guys were waived/injured):

DE/OLB Corey Vereen - IR'd in June, released 9/4, settlement length unknown
DT Woody Hamilton - IR'd 9/3, released 9/4, 3-week settlement rumored, potential return 10/16?
DT Josh Augusta - IR'd 9/3, released 9/7, 3-week settlement (per Miguel), potential return 10/19?
TE Matt Lengel - IR'd 8/27, released 9/30, settlement unknown

WR Devin Lucien - IR'd 9/3, released 9/6, 3-week settlement - signed to IND-ps 9/12

I would really like to see Agusta back. I really didn't see enough of Vereen to have an opinion.

I'm assuming the PS is an eligible location.
