Post Game Thread - Panthers @ Pats

I can't for the life of me understand what Belichick saw in Gilmore that made him willing to guarantee the guy $40M
I think he has the pure talent to be worth it, he just has to make it happen mentally.

2 and 2 right now is where we belong with this defense. Brady is good but we realistically cannot expect 35 to 40 from him each game

I don't need stats to confirm what I've seen. I have been very tempered in my criticism of this team and particularly the D because I have felt most of it is communication issues (and still feel that way). But this is just bad. Both the Texans and Panthers could not score, move the ball and/or keep from turning it over before playing the Pats. Then they look like the greatest offenses in the league when they play the Pats. It's just bad right now. I do still believe in the coaching staff.

You think the coaching staff can make these guys play better?

We wasted a lot of money in that secondary....going backward, are we?

Startling lack of awareness from Gilmore on the penalty. Why even jam so high on the receiver? He had already been called for hands to the face once, so he needed to be aware of the ref's tendencies there. Shoot the hands to the chest, not up high, and we probably win. Brady played really well to lead a comeback, but it was not to be. Ah well. There's time to improve the communication and coach the fundamentals. Long season, and dropping two games early certainly doesn't spell doom.
I think there is a lot of competition this year... Teams that can beat us...

The blitz for six is not happening this year with this defense.

I'm gonna be so mad when this defense craps the bed in the AFC Championship or the Super Bowl and costs us the game. I've seen this movie before.

Not sure why everyone is so high on the offense. Brady missed several throws, and overall the play-calling seemed lackluster.

I said it last week, I'll say it again: Brady and McDaniels do not show any sense of urgency until they're behind. They're running what they want to be successful, not what is successful. Brady, despite his statistical success, has appeared rushed at times and seems to be trying to throw the ball too hard. He's great, but he can be better.

It's a team game and the offense absolutely left points on the field. The defense is a big problem, but that doesn't mean the offense is perfect.

As far as Gilmore is concerned, I'm not sure I agree that he's the issue. In fact, I think he has been their best cover CB, and outside of the miscommunications and questionable penalties, I don't have much of a gripe with him. I'd like to see him more engaged and active, however. Butler seems to be a major problem, as do the LBs and lack of talent at DL. Chung and McCourty have been underwhelming, too.

i think that's affecting butler. some loser CB gets paid big bucks and a loyal pat is still making league minimum.
so disappointing so far..

forgot to add, pat chung = ****
Yeah, it has most definitely impacting Butler's play (rightfully or wrongfully). He has not been as consistent as we've seen him by a long shot.

And while I wouldn't call Chung "****," I will say that he has regressed and looks a lot more like first stint Chung and not 2014-15 Chung.

I thought that McCourty was a bigger issue than Gilmore.

People want to hold thos BS helmet penalties against him - which is just frustration talking.

I'd honestly say that the refs were pretty corrupt - I don't like Boger at all - the calls they were making were just ridiculous and at such key points.

Most of the defensive screw ups seemed to center around McCourty (which is a surprise) and his coordination with Glmore and Rowe (in particular).

Just very odd.

Awful D and awful reffing.
Maybe Mccourty is distracted with political crap?
