Pats trade Jacoby Brissett to the Colts for Phillip Dorsett

This is hilarious coming from one of the doom-and-gloom trolls.

Here let me walk you through it

Here is Dorsett's rookie season

As it shows he had 39 targets that year and 0 drops

Now here was last season

He was targeted 59 times and had 3 drops

You add 39 & 59 together and it equals 98

98 targets

Now add the drops from both seasons which was 0 & 3 and that equals 3

98 targets
3 drops

HAHAHA

Once more for the experts on this forum.

A drop is only counted when the ball touches a WRs hand. Balls that bounce off and sail incomplete do not count even though they should have been caught. As someone else stated, Edelman dropped 3 passes in the first half of 1 game. Do you actually believe that Dorset only dropped 3 passes out of 98 targets? Seriously?

Oh so you watched all 98 of his targets?? '

Also here are how the site I used for my stats chart drops

"This standard for drops are "incomplete passes where the receiver SHOULD have caught the pass with ORDINARY effort"

So a ball off the chest or through the hands would have been registered as a drop.

Nope

This statistic counts the number of times an intended receiver touches the ball but fails to catch it. If the ball is thrown but the receiver never gets his hands on it, it is not recorded as a drop.

They quote your numbers verbatim 3 out of 59.

Dropped Passes: 2016 NFL Season

Look, I hope that Dorset works out, but I believe the Pats got screwed in this trade.

Do we have any info on how Dorsett played in TC/preseason this year?

Even if Dorsett ends up being a steaming pile of Grigson, I still don't see how the Patriots got screwed.

Brissett seems like a great kid. But that slow throwing motion, lack of touch on short throws, and iffy accuracy was never going to be the QB of Belichick's Patriots.

Garoppolo appears to be a poor man's Brady. Brissett is a rich man's Rohan Davey. Remember when Davey was going to get us two 1st's after his NFLE MVP?

Both teams got rid of players they had little use for.

Drops or no drops, how would they get screwed if they were simply planning on releasing him anyway?

So, basically, they took a guy they may have cut and decided to trade him for a shot at first round talent. It's quite possible that Brissett simply wasn't picking up our system very well and they were only going to keep 2 QBs.

I like JB a lot, but he would have never played for the Patriots, barring catastrophic injuries. It's Brady, then JG, or Brady outlives JG's tenure and the Pats bring in new blood.

Or we could run into a situation that terrifies some of our more pessimistic fans. Brady looks like he's going to keep going for many more years so they deal or let Garoppolo go to free agency and then Brady immediately gets hurt and his career is over and all we have is a fresh drafted rookie. In that situation the problem may take a lot more than a Dorsett type to solve

I'm sure you'll be here to let us know when JB takes over the starting job in Indy.

And we'd have our draft pick, plus whoever else was signed or traded for. We have a very solid offense at all positions. Maybe we'd go 11-5 as we did under Cassel, maybe better, maybe worse.

I find this "let go to free agency" interesting. The other choice is to pay a backup over $20M for his 2018 services.

You cant really say that Brisett would never play with Jimmy headed to FA.

How can they keep Brady and also pay or franchise Jimmy? He wants to play yesterday.

Too logical for some posters.

It's hilarious how mad some of you are getting at each other about this.

There is no 'first round tender' in JG. He'll be an UFA. They either franchise him, sign him to another deal, or he's free to do what he wants.

There's two types of franchise tags available. Exclusive rights franchise tag and non-exclusive rights franchise tag. The non-exclusive tag is a lower number but teams can sign the player to an offer sheet. If the team does not match, they are owed two 1st round picks.

56% to be exact.

A drop only counts if the balls touches a WR hand. All the balls off the chest and through the hands do not register. Whats hilarious is that Brisket kind of sucked if you buy into the homer logic. But Dorset does not suck and we got a steal. The Colts said hell, lets make the best team in the AFC even better and send them a player who will be a star.
You think every incomplete pass to him plus some of his catches were drops?
He caught 33 of 59.
So your argument is he dropped 56% which is 29. So every incomplete plus 3 of his catches were drops. Okay, keep clowning yourself.

Btw he had 3 drops.

I don't think there is any place for Dorsett if Edelman is on the roster.

I am bracing for some downvotes but at this point do we even know if we havent seen the last of Edelman?

Yes, I know he is an insane and relentless worker but lets not forget he will be 32 next May coming off an injury that usually takes an additional season to fully get back to 100%. The team needs to at least prepare for life without Edelman..

I've had similar thoughts. It's natural to.

In 2018, his cap hit will be $5.1m and if cut/retires $2m in dead money is left on the books. This is DA all over again.

My gut tells me they will monitor his rehab and ask him to redo his deal.

I'd be surprised if he put up a 90/1000 yd year in 2018. I think the heavy workloads seasons are over however doubting that man is a fools errand

If he makes it all the way back in 2018, I see him becoming the next DA in 2019. Lightened workload but still an important part of the WR corps and backstop on STs.
