Wouldn't be surprised if one of the two UDFA DBs sneaks on. They've shown some things in games/practices & they've gotten extensive ST work.

hot PS candidates probably cut close to Sat deadline..

You wonder if BB will be motivated to have this done fairly early cause they are playing Thursday. Probably not but it makes you wonder how much of this was already in place in advance as far as decided cuts and what not than if they were playing on Sunday.

I'm sure the last preseason made less than a 20 percent difference to BBs roster thoughts he sees them practice he spends time with them.
What is more impactful how players from others teams who the Pats have on their Rolodex have looked.

So who's going to be Pats first cut?

Darius Kilgo, Tony Washington, James Ferentz, LaAdrian Waddle?

I don't get people thinking that Slater is going to be cut. He's an ALL-PRO Special Teams player. You don't cut him just so his salary isn't guaranteed. ..

Need Adam Butler and someone to return kicks.

Slater isn't subject to waivers.
I can see him cut with the understanding that he will sign again before Game 1, with a roster guarantee, and a new bonus (something to make it worth it for him).

To make the salary non-guaranteed, he has to be signed after game 1..

So no. I can't see him being cut like that.

Please name another Team Captain that BB has done that to in the past.

B6 great minds think alike but I can't see BB granting my wishes at WR.:D And I like both Lucien and Carr too.

I did NOT suggest that Slater not be given a salary guarantee. I am suggesting more money to Slater. Yes, Slater could consider a raise to be an affront for not being on the team for less than 24 hours.

If I had to guess, I think Kenny Moore is the best bet to make it. Wasn't a big fan of Travis from what little I saw, but Moore crushed it on ST which will probably be the deciding factor for that last spot. No real opinion on Bates, didn't see enough of him to form one.

Dude. Just stop. You're not making any sense at all. The only reason to CUT Slater would be to not guarantee his contract. The Patriots don't need to cut Slater to give him more money. They can just do so..

Furthermore, the only way the salary for vested vets isn't guaranteed is if they are OFF the roster for game 1.

No way Bates makes the team. He looked like he was running in slow motion out there

The only way I could see the Pats cutting Slater for a day would be to free up a roster spot to carry Rivers onto the final 53 before immediately IRing him, and then using that spot to immediately re-sign Slater once it's freed up.

I certainly don't think that'll happen -- I'll be very surprised if it does -- but technically not guaranteeing his contract isn't the only reason I can think of why you might cut and resign a guy like Slater. Based on past precedent, though, I think it's more likely the Pats would do that with a guy who isn't a long-tenured captain. Maybe someone like Moore or Hamilton; yeah, they're subject to waivers and you might lose them, but losing them wouldn't exactly be the end of the world and there's a good chance they get replaced by someone else's cuts anyhow

My final 53

ST (9) S.Gostkowski, R.Allen, J.Cardona, M. Slater, B. King, J. Jones, N. Ebner, M. Flowers, G. Grissom

They keep 3 QBs, no surprise. Carr over Lucien but they will need that extra body particularly with Mitchell not 100% to start the season. Bolden is a hard cut at RB/STs but someone had to go. RB will not be a unit more focused on balance and keeping Brady healthy. I am sure sure it is reasonable to keep asking Brady to carry the offense entirely on his arm at this point. Less hits and throws are needed. TE is a tough cut. Hollister hopefully makes the PS. Garcia to IR I'd guess so give me Waddle for that 4th OT spot. DL is 7 guys who will play mostly 3 spots but sometimes 4. Grissom is more of a STers at this point. Butler will mix between 3-4 DE and 4-3 DT as will Guy a lot. LB is going to be interesting to watch. I hope Langi can impact this year. I don't like how much they will need to depend on guys like Van Noy and McClellin this year who to me are not good starters. Roberts starts the year on the 53 but I doubt we see him much. DB is honestly a bit light. The only other guy I may not hate back their is Ebner. I don't even want to see Coleman much though but he gets the nod due to experience. Special teams is very competitive for the last few spots. I put Flowers on there but he may just be a PS guy. Slater, Ebner, King and Jones will carry that unit though.
