Perfect Brady Ending

Look at Wes Welker/Julian Edelman. Everyone just assumed Welker was the hands-down starter no matter what, but in the first couple weeks of the season, it was Julian Edelman who was starting, until he got hurt.

BB made a mistake putting Edelman over Welker, because he was trying to limit Welker's role. That doesn't really help your position. There's not a way to limit a QB's role in that same sense.

And, no, there's not a competition between Brady and JAG. There's not even a sniff of such a competition.

Perfect ending would be letting him rot away in SF, playing for his beloved 49ers. Win one more title this year and then trade him.

Worst case scenario, he wins, comes back, we lose JG, and Brady falls off the cliff ala Manning.
Your proposed worst case scenario is probably why a lot of fans are obsessing about the possibilities surrounding the end of Tom Brady's career. I know for me the biggest concern I have is that potential two to three years from now on losing Brady and not having experienced and competent number 2to take over the role.

It's probably lazy thinking to live in hope that Brady will retire with time to sign Garoppolo. But speaking for myself my concern is not specifically related to Garoppolo. I am concerned about the succession at quarterback because I can see that the end is coming within a small handful of seasons. If Belichick is successful at acquiring another fully competent quarterback in the wings behind Brady then I will be perfectly happy to let Garoppolo go when I see that has happened. It's the possibility of timing it wrong and winding up going from Brady to just another dude off the street as the starting quarterback of the New England Patriots that has me so concerned.

If you flat out asked both Brady and Garoppolo whether there was a competition to quarterback both of them would disagree with your opinion. There is definitely a competition that is part of with the backup quarterback is for. What there isn't is a quarterback controversy.

Yes, because they'd be lying in the manner they've been coached. It'd be no different than "You can't judge that 0-15 team by the record. They've got a lot of really good players, and we're going to have to play our best to win.".

Brady won't give up the game just because he wins another SB.... and the Pats aren't going 19-0

The OP tore a page directly out of the George Costanza handbook.

This way, he would be "Going out on a high note."

You say he made a mistake.

I've taken no position on who should be starting where.

I'm just telling you what Belichick actually did. There's a track record. You might not like it, but it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

We know why he was doing it. It was widely reported.

And, in reference to Brady/JAG, the question is simple:

As of today, what scenario exists, barring injury, where JAG beats out Brady for the starting QB job?

That's what you said. "Do you REALLY think Garoppolo can beat out Brady"

robertweathers didn't say that. He said it was a competition. Belichick goes into every camp having a competition for every spot. Brady's better, so he'll beat out Garoppolo, but if Brady's not better, he'd be phased out.

Look at Wes Welker/Julian Edelman. Everyone just assumed Welker was the hands-down starter no matter what, but in the first couple weeks of the season, it was Julian Edelman who was starting, until he got hurt.
So you think the job was open and garopollo could have beaten him out. I disagree.

So you are saying IF JG played better than TB12 this preseason, BB would have still gone with TB?

I think both know Garrapolo isn't in the same galaxy as Brady.
Of course. Thats not the question.

Tom knows if he shows major slippage or gets hurt its Jimmy's job indefinitely.

If Tom shows major slippage or gets hurt and the team is winning BB will start Jimmy indefinitely.

That is competition.

Come on. You think garapollo could beat out Brady? That's ridiculous.

Do you really think I think that? ************.

People are confusing "competition" with "open and equal competition for a starting job". The latter is also called "a quarterback controversy".

When you regularly split practice and training camp reps with someone, even if it is a very unbalanced split, say 2:1, their performance almost always gives you some extra incentive to hone your performance, if you are a competitive person (like, for example, TB12).

That doesn't mean that it was ever a coin toss that TB would lose his job, just that JG was also being given a chance to prove himself as also being fit for this type of job.

TB12 and JG have had an apparently friendly competition, one that certainly has never come close to being a QB controversy, and never will, IMO.

No it's not. It's a backup who needs the starter to get injured to have a chance to play.

So you think that if the team was 4-0 last year and jimmy was playing well Brady would have never gotten his job back? Honestly?

A competition would mean the job is up for grabs. Short of injury there is absolutely nothing that could have happened this year that would have resulted in Brady losing his job.

Welkers snaps were limited in ONE game btw.

He has a job that gives him 6 months a year off
nonsense.

Brady works his tail off during those months off. It's not six, actually just a couple, mid-Feb to mid-April then some time off scattered around OTAs before training camp starts late July (see below). No doubt he works as hard as he does during the season, that's what makes him the GOAT.
