Bequette, Silverstro and crabel lol

No.
I am saying there are too many running backs ahead of him.

I am saying he is NOT better than the actual WRs (or 3 of the RBs forcthat matter) as a slot receiver.

If he were he would be moved to wr and play the position, but he isn't.

Okay.

You win.

Okay.

You win.
It's not a matter of winning.
That is my opinion.
It's is no more or less valid than yours.

If you believe he should be on the field as a slot receiver or on the roster and depth chart, that is your assessment.

One of us has it right and one has it wrong ( because we disagree) but which one that is dorsnt depend on "winning" the discussion of what our viewpoints are.

Sure, but I don't see either in this case.

In this case, the second would obviously be more applicable at this point and, given the hamstrings of Gillislee and the everything of Lewis, it's about as obvious a reason as you'll ever find.

Now, if your point is that you don't think Foster, in particular, is an NFL level player, that's a different issue.

I think that 2 injuries would need to happen for him to be active and that's assuming bolden is gone.
That's a practice squad guy to me, and yes if someone else decided to claim him I would not fret.

Solder and Mitchell not spotted at practice today.

That's not so good, even if they're not going to be playing in game 4.

That's fine, and you're welcome to your take, but that means your issue is with the player, not the notion. This team has carried non-help before, particularly at the QB spot (Brady, year one, is about as clear cut as this gets), and it will likely continue doing it moving forward.

Circumstances always matter.

So my guess:

QB (3) T.Brady, J.Garoppolo, J.Brissett
RB (6) M.Gillislee, J.White, J.Develin, D.Lewis, R.Burkhead, B.Bolden
WR (5) B.Cooks, C.Hogan, D.Amendola, M.Mitchell, A.Carr
TE (3) R.Gronkowski, D.Allen, J.O'Shaughnessy
C (1) D.Andrews
G (3) S.Mason, J.Thuney, T.Karras
T (4) N.Solder, T.Garcia, C.Fleming, M.Cannon
DE (3) T.Flowers, D.Wise, G.Grissom
DT (5) A.Branch, M.Brown, V.Valentine, L.Guy, A.Butler
ILB(4) D.Hightower, D.Harris, E.Roberts, H.Langi
OLB(2) K.VanNoy, S.McClellin
CB (6) M.Butler, S.Gilmore, E.Rowe, C.Jones, K.Moore, J.Jones
SS (3) P.Chung, N.Ebner, B.King
FS (2) D.McCourty, D.Harmon
ST (3) S.Gostkowski, R.Allen, J.Cardona

Assuming Slater to IR and Bolden and King as ST players.

My WAG as of now:

QB (3) T.Brady, J.Garoppolo, J.Brissett
RB (6) M.Gillislee, D.Lewis, R.Burkhead, J.White, J.Develin, B.Bolden
WR (5) B.Cooks, C.Hogan, D.Amendola, M.Mitchell, M.Slater
TE (3) R.Gronkowski, D.Allen, J.O'Shaughnessy
C (1) D.Andrews
G (3) S.Mason, J.Thuney, T.Karras
T (4) N.Solder, M.Cannon, C.Fleming, L.Waddle
DE (3) T.Flowers, D.Wise, G.Grissom
DT (5) A.Branch, M.Brown, V.Valentine, L.Guy, A.Butler
ILB(4) D.Hightower, D.Harris, H.Langi, E.Roberts
OLB(2) K.VanNoy, S.McClellin
CB (6) M.Butler, S.Gilmore, E.Rowe, C.Jones, J.Jones, J.Coleman
SS (3) P.Chung, N.Ebner, B.King
FS (2) D.McCourty, D.Harmon
ST (3) S.Gostkowski, R.Allen, J.Cardona

Total players: 53
Created with Pats Picker: Pats Picker 2017

Commentary:
- assuming that Edelman, Rivers, and Garcia go on IR, while Solder, McClellan, Langi, Roberts, and Mitchell are healthy enough to play. If Garcia can play, he replaces Waddle.

- think the team will "replace" Edelman not via an additional WR but by going with more multiple back sets. My tough cut here was DJ Foster, going with Bolden's special teams reliability and overall system knowledge instead. But if my strategy guess is correct, Foster's role still would only be as backup/developmental, thinking it's the other 4 guys who would benefit from more time in the field.

- To extend on that last point - I don't have Austin Carr on the roster. But if my opinion on how to replace Edelman is accurate, Carr's spot on the roster wouldn't depend on Edelman at all. That is to say - if they think he is a worthy guy to develop in the slot (and replace Amendola next year), they likely would have found a way to stash him on the roster for a red-shirt year even prior to Edelman getting hurt. Personally, I haven't seen quickness that makes him look special yet (granting that his hands and apparent quick pick up of the system are positives), so I'm assuming the answer to that question is no.

- For a nickel/dime based team, the depth at safety looks terrible unless they really think Ebner and/or King could play if needed (top 3 of course are phenomenal). I don't think anyone else has looked good in training camp. I'd mark this position down for a potential outside upgrade, possibly impacting Grissom if he can play special teams, or Coleman if they think he maxed out. Another option is that the team may think Cyrus Jones could fill in at safety if needed.

- At corner, I only think Gilmore and Rowe have truly distinguished themselves in the preseason. Butler had bounced back very well against Detroit until the TD pass. Otherwise, it's a mixed bag. I haven't seen Moore keep up his strong start to the preseason, which is why I've cut him for Coleman.

- potential practice squad guys if they make it through: DJ Foster, McDermott, Croston, Lucien, Carr, J Hollister, Moore, Bates, Augusta, one external guy

Why? Do you think Rivers will be able to rehab in time to play in 2017?
because he has to be on the 53 man squad to avoid waivers

If Foster is a better pass-catcher out of the slot than any of the WRs on the current roster, why would they not keep him for that purpose, regardless of his positional designation?

And if a bull had teats he'd be a cow.

Foster is not a better slot receiver than Amendola, Hogan even Mitchell.

He can be placed on IR at the same time as the 53-man roster cutdowns, and still avoid waivers.

He would only have to be on the 53-man roster if the Pats wanted to bring him back off IR at some point this season.

I misspoke. I intended to refer to specifically Carr, Lucien, etc. May bad for always allowing myself to get sucked into Andy's traps.

Won't happen again.

Another roster projection, this one from USA Today on 8/26.

Patriots' 53-man roster projection 5.0: Replacing Julian Edelman

QB (3)
RB (5) - Brandon Bolden’s special teams value isn’t enough for him to make the team over Foster.
TE (3) - Like many of the players who are on the bubble, O’Shaughnessy makes the team because of his special teams value.
WR (6, including Slater) - Carr takes Edelman's roster spot.
OL (8) - backups are Garcia, Fleming and Karras.

DL (8) - Grissom and Butler take the final two roster spots for this unit.
LB (7) - author includes Elandon Roberts, and also places Brandon King in this group.
S (4 [5, including B King]) - Jordan Richards has not done enough to help his cause. In fact, his preseason performances have mostly hurt his cause. Interesting to note that the author talks about special teams throughout the article, but no mention of Freeny here.
CB (5) - Cyrus Jones in, Jon Jones out. No mention of Coleman or Moore, who are also not part of his roster.

Brissett is starting to look like unnecessary.
