Chris: Dion Lewis is a proven between the Tackles Runner against #1 Defenses. You seem to forgot what he did for Half a year two years ago look at his rushing and receiving stats he was a proven dual threat. Two years now removed for ACL says better days are ahead for Lewis. D.J. Foster is no Dion Lewis.

With JE11 going down the team needs DLew more than ever.

The question is can DJ Foster do some work in the slot?

I would try Devin Lucien in the Slot before Foster who was never been a good WR and a average RB in College.

DJ Foster at Arizona State (Pac-12 competition):

2012 -
Rushing: 102/493 (4.8 ypa), 2 TDs ... Receiving: 38/533 (14.0 ypc), 4 TDs
[2nd on the team in total yards from scrimmage as a freshman.]

2013 -
Rushing: 93/501 (5.4 ypa), 6 TDs ... Receiving: 63/653 (10.4 ypc), 4 TDs
[#2 receiver behind Jalen Strong. #3 RB.]

2014 -
Rushing: 194/1081 (5.6 ypa), 9 TDs ... Receiving: 62/688 (11.1 ypc), 3 TDs
[Leading rusher for the team by a mile. Still #2 receiver behind Strong. Led the team in total yards from scrimmage and in TDs.]

2015 -
Rushing: 55/280 (5.1 ypa), 1 TDs ... Receiving: 59/584 (9.9 ypc), 3 TDs
[Converted to slot WR for the season. #2 receiver behind Devin Lucien.]

I don't see how Tannenbaum does any deal with us where he cant afterwards climb on a table, take his **** out and proclaim how he fleeced the Patriots.

If Miami really wants some ROI on him they will send him somewhere outside the AFC East. I am sure there are teams who would give up at least the same resources as we would.

You do realize tannenbaum graduated needham high school. He was a huge patriots fan growing up

So what ? He even worked with BB in Cleveland back in the days..

What matters is everything that happened since 2006 when he became Jets GM.

Lucien 3 cone drill 6.93., 4.4 40 yd
Carr 3 cone drill 6.70, 4.6
Edleman 3 cone drill 6.62, 4.5

Carr is a poor man's Edleman as a slot WR, Lucien is strictly a outside the numbers wr.

Carr is a good fit given his 3 cone and good hands. He also took a couple of good shoots and held onto the ball, when given the opportunity. Biggest question to me is how he is picking up the O.

Again, have you seen him actually trying to run routes compared to Edelman ?

He is not close to be a competent slot receiver in the NFL. I don't understand why people get so distracted by testing numbers, when all you need to do is actually watch Carr during one of the preseason games to see that he is not ready.

At this point getting Keyshawn Martin who was cut today would be an upgrade over Carr.

I have no idea who or what will replace Jules on this team. But all of the guys people have mentioned have to look at this as their Brady moment. Jules at this point, is Bledsoe. Can any of these people take the opportunity by the throat and claim the spot?

Tannenbaum is the enemy. There is nothing more than he would like to see than the Patriots go 4-12 every year and BB out of the NFL.

I don't see much trade return for Lewis, nor do I see why you would trade him. He has a lot of versatility as a kick returner, runner, and receiver (see last year's playoff game vs. Houston.) If he is even close to his same quickness as 2015, his elusiveness is among the best in the NFL; if not, he is still a solid player. I've always really liked the guy and his underdog story, so maybe I'm biased.

With JE11 going down, Lewis is incredibly important to this team.

Austin Carr is the guy

The 5th WR WON'T BE A BIG FACTOR THIS YEAR.

Comparing the route running of a rookie Carr with a 9 year veteran Edleman is stupid.

So let's look at the 4 'locks at WR

Hogan, outside receiver
Mitchell outside receiver
Amendola, slot but limited number of snaps due to age and injury history
Cooks either Inside, best as a deep threat to stretch the D

Why is there a need for a 4th outside WR since they already have 3?
A supplemental Slot WR COULD be a help.

The solution will be a using 2 RB sets and putting them in motion and playing a virtual slot role.

Well it's gonna take awhile for brady and cooks to have that chemistry. Also you can never have too many options. Gronk has to play a full season and be gronk. We will see if Mitchell can raise his level. I like him but I wanna see more deep routes. Routes that can go beyond 20 yards.

I've seen nothing from Lucien that would lead me to believe that he could be an NFL slot receiver. He's got marginal skill as an outside receiver.

I didn't know Carr's 3-cone was that good.

When Edelman ran the 3-cone the scouts didn't believe it and had him run it again.

His 40 is slow so not drafted, but IMO his measurable are fine for a slot in the PAt's system, get in and out of breaks.

SO IMO BB, JMD, the QB's and WR coach know how well Carr is or is not picking up the O and making the correct reads. WE will know the truth of this after the cuts.

Landry had an awful combine including his 40. I don't put much stock on it. As long as you get open and run good routes.

First of all Edelman was not just a slot receiver.
Secondly cooks amendola and hogan can all play in the slot.
Thirdly you can get the "slot production" out of white as well. Fourthly this offense morphs to use the strengths of the players it has available.
Putting 5 quality receivers on the forms regardless of their position is what leads to success, not the differences in their skill sets.
