Looks like Rivers is out for the year...

As should be expected, there is not much available in terms of available veteran free agents.

Dwight Freeney -- 37 years old
DeMarcus Ware -- 35, retired; back issues
Trent Cole -- 34, back issues
Paul Kruger -- 31, back issues
Mario Williams -- 32; has not played well for a long time

Unless Rob Ninkovich has a change of heart, the Patriots are going to have to just play the hand that they have been dealt. Perhaps Langi, Hightower, McClellin, etc. can take some snaps opposite Flowers. Let's see what Keionta Davis can do Saturday.

Cue the hindsight specialists, 'I told you the Pats should have re-signed Jabaal Sheard' in 3, 2, 1...

I was expecting rivers to be a pass rush specialist at the most this year.
Silver lining to this might be the bes pass rusher we have, Hightower, rushes the passer more on 3rd down and in 2 minute .

Sheard was replaced already. Flowers took most if his snaps last year and wise and ealy were brought in. Rivers is extra if you compare roles from 16 to 17. (This is both assuming wise i ahead of rivers and that rivers as a rookie doesn't fit any role we had last year)
Sheard was a backup early form de who moved inside in passing downs. Guy can also replicate that role.

I wasn't counting on a lot from our rookies. I expected meaningful reps from one of them. It seems that the one is Wise.

IMHO, this injury is not a major issue for the 2017 team. We already expected Wise to get many more reps than Rivers. It is a bigger issue for 2018.

with 14 mil in cap space, and roster cuts not happening until the final week of the preseason, Id expect to see the pats bring some players in that get cut. Wouldn't expect any major trades.

This suuuuucks

I was hoping for a Collins situation. Sit him in the beginning, let him develop and let him loose come play off time.

Hopefully this injury won't have a long term effects

Really such a shame, was coming on in joint practices. I hate that he got hurt on special teams, wish the scrubs were playing on special teams, instead of guys like Rivers. We have 90 guys on the roster. Put the UDFAs on special teams. I guess this is just my anger speaking out, I trust BB implicitly.

Injuries happen, no team is immune from these things happening. Hopefully he comes back strong next season, but this really hurts his progress.

Kind of sucks, we needed him for depth as well. the toughest part of the game

Teams calling offering D ends for Jimmy G in 3 2 1

Jimmy G to Denver for Von Miller...confirmed. hahaha.

realistically, they'll give someone a 5th rounder for a DE we all go "who?" too and ends up getting 8 sacks...like when we brought in Sheard

Watching the Eagles game last night; they have some EDGE rushers. Damn. Their 4th & 5th guys looked really good. Figure the top 3 of Graham, Barnett & Long are set for them. Could look into one of the other guys: Curry, Means, etc.

that's the one area i'm a bit concerned about with us. we are lacking depth here.
