Official Preseason Thread Jags @ Pats

If he keeps having this kind of camp, they'll find room for him. Besides, Amendola could be gone next year and the Patriots will need another white wideout.

. . . and the NFL's premier monopoly on diminutive white wide receivers . . . (around the 5 minute mark):

I am expecting the inevitable Austin Carr vs Danny Amendola thread to be in excess of 25 pages of length.
And Edelman.

Who has hurt their changes to make the team and why?

Let's be careful here, don't forget Childress, Tyms, and Harper's heroics. These preseason superstar wide outs happen every year.

That's a good point, but of those guys Tyms is the only hype I really bought, since he did display NFL-caliber size/speed for stretches. What separates Carr from the other guys is that he's doing it against NFL-ish talent and he's doing it in a way that demonstrates a niche that's in demand in the NFL. If you compare his 3 cone, short shuttle, and 10/20 yard splits to Edelman's, it quickly becomes clear that he has NFL-caliber agility to go with adequate NFL size. And so far today he's supplemented that physical profile by demonstrating sure hands, the footwork/timing to make catches along the sideline, and the ability/willingness to high point the ball and bring it down in traffic. That's huge. His physical profile, plus the skillset that he's putting on display, wins you roster spots. Every team in the league is looking for that skill profile right now and it isn't the easiest thing out there to find. If the Pats don't keep him, I can think of at least a half dozen teams that would be insane not to sign him. ****, he could probably be the Jets slot receiver week 1 if the Pats don't keep him.

He isn't a guy with a slightly above average 40 time and decent size trashing on corners who will be selling insurance in a couple months. If he was making his mark by bringing down 40 yard catches after beating a ****ty 7th string corner by a step and a half, I'd be a lot more skeptical. He's a guy with legitimate NFL size/agility displaying legitimate NFL skills.

Maybe but sadly it is a case of getting a good little steal at a position you don't need :/

I am happy we have Carr. I just wish we had someone like him at DE or OT who was flashing this big as an UDFA cause they could really use a guy there.
Maybe not right away, but injuries occur and there will be a need for him soon enough, if not this year. Pats should not let a WR that can flourish in their system get away.

Yes they do but sometimes one clicks. I remember Felger belittling Pat's fans because they got excited about Edleman. He compared him to Childress....I'll never forget his stupid condescending laugh.

Turns out Cris Carter took the fall during his own baptism. Well done, sir!

Why does Kraft always sound like...
